Deontay Wilder’s trainer reveals why “killer” instinct will return vs. Zhilei Zhang

Deontay Wilder and his team have unwavering faith that his inner dog will once again emerge in his upcoming fight against Zhilei Zhang.

The ex-WBC heavyweight champion was defeated in his previous boxing match by Joseph Parker on December 23, 2023 in a unanimous decision.

Despite maintaining a record of 43-3-1 for his career, Wilder’s recent loss to Parker marked his third defeat in the last four fights. This only added to the doubts about his skills, which had previously been scrutinized during his trilogy against Tyson Fury.

Despite this, the 38-year-old is prepared to showcase his skills against Zhang on June 1 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His team, known for their knockout abilities, is also fully prepared for the fight.

In a recent interview with Instant Casinos, Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott disclosed that Wilder’s experimentation with the psychedelic drug ayahuasca may have diminished his aggressive nature in his most recent fight.

According to Scott, Deontay is known for his aggressive and powerful punching style, but on that particular night he was not able to deliver. However, Scott assures that in his next fight, Deontay will display his true fighting skills.

Despite eating several big right hands in the eighth round, Wilder’s output decreased against Parker as he only threw an average of 17 punches per round. This was a significant decrease of 19 punches compared to his average heading into the bout, as reported by Boxing Scene.

Even without anything to discourage his mental fortitude, Wilder’s enthusiasm may resurface. He remains determined to reclaim the top spot in the division, and Scott asserts that all heavyweights should be aware of the effort he has been putting in behind the scenes.

“The next opponent we face will face a significant challenge, as Deontay is currently in a highly vengeful state,”Scott confidently stated.

“Deontay is currently in peak physical condition, actively participating in sparring and strength and conditioning training. His chef is now readily available around the clock. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure Deontay performs at his best.”

The fighter, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches and weighs 214 pounds, will have to be in excellent physical condition to face Zhang, who has a weight advantage of 42 pounds over him.

In recent fights, Wilder’s stance has appeared susceptible, highlighting the importance of improving his lower body strength and conditioning to secure a victory.

Scott confirms that the former Olympic bronze medalist will be prepared to give his best performance in June.

“The upcoming fight is expected to be a surgical performance. The most appealing aspect to me is the dangerous nature of Zhang as an opponent, as it will push Deontay to perform even better.”

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are on a collision course to determine the fate of Fury’s lineal title. If Wilder defeats Zhang, he may have the opportunity to finally face Joshua in a highly anticipated fight.
