In the latest chapter of Destiny 2, titled Episode Revenant, a new gameplay element known as Tonics was introduced. These consumable items were designed to mitigate the unpredictability of loot acquisition. However, many players have voiced concerns about their effectiveness.
Tonic recipes require Guardians to gather specific ingredients from various seasonal and ritual activities. Once all ingredients are collected, players can combine these to create drinks that enhance their gameplay experience. There are two primary types of Tonics: Volatile and Enriching, with the latter specifically aimed at boosting drop rates for desired armor and weaponry.
The efficacy of a Tonic increases with its tier. Rare Tonics provide enhanced drop rates for specific weapon classes, whereas Legendary Tonics allow players to target seasonal weapons with greater precision. However, a significant issue has arisen: players are reporting that the drop rate boosts from Tonics may not be functioning correctly.
Player Investigations into Tonic Discrepancies
A post on the DestinyTheGame subreddit highlighted suspicions regarding Tonic effectiveness. One user remarked, “I have noticed that the Act II Tonics are giving the wrong weapons.” After conducting extensive testing over two days, the user expressed confidence in their findings, inviting the community to collaborate in verifying the issue.
In essence, this player concluded that “all the Tonics are increasing the drop rate of the weapons offset to the right side of their icons.” This suggests a potential mismatch between Tonic descriptions and their actual effects, leading to player confusion.

While many community members supported the initial claims and contributed their observations, pinpointing a definitive conclusion has proven challenging. It’s important to note that even if a Tonic is intended to boost drop rates for specific weapons, those weapons can still be acquired through regular means, diluting the evidence.
As of now, Bungie has not released an official statement addressing these concerns. However, given the developer’s history of addressing player feedback and resolving bugs promptly, a response is anticipated soon. Recently, the studio acknowledged issues with weapon perk combinations not dropping as frequently as expected and compensated players with complimentary god roll weapons from Banshee-44.
We will keep this article updated with any new information from Bungie regarding the current Tonic situation.
