Destiny 2 currently finds itself at a crossroads. While the number of active players is declining, community feedback reveals a divided sentiment: some players feel a sense of resignation, while others passionately urge Bungie to make necessary improvements to the game.
The year 2025 holds significant promise for the sci-fi looter shooter, with the announced roadmap featuring two major expansions alongside a variety of free content updates.
This deviation from established norms reflects Bungie’s intent to engage the player base as they approach the upcoming expansions, referred to as ‘Frontiers.’ Players are taking to platforms like the game’s subreddit to share their thoughts on raid design for the next chapter.
Calls for Improved Raid Accessibility in Frontiers
Frontier’s one Raid needs to be more accessible and lasting than Salvation’s Edge by u/Grogonfire in DestinyTheGame
A vocal community member initiated the conversation by praising the “fitting end” of Salvation’s Edge in the Light and Darkness Saga. This raid is often hailed as one of Bungie’s most intricate and challenging to date, serving as a prelude to the post-campaign Excision mission. However, many players expressed a desire for a less daunting experience.
“While Bungie shouldn’t shy away from creating difficult or aspirational content, a more approachable and engaging experience is essential if that’s going to be the sole source of high-level content for an entire year,” the user commented. They noted that even die-hard fans of Salvation’s Edge acknowledge its complexities, which adversely affects completion rates.
According to the original post, “I’m not suggesting every raid should mirror RoN [Root of Nightmares], which had its own set of problems. Instead, aiming for a balance akin to the likes of DSC, Vow, or King’s Fall should be the goal as we move forward.”
While Root of Nightmares faced critique for being overly simplistic, Salvation’s Edge seems to have swung too far in the opposite direction.
The sentiment resonates across the community, with one of the thread’s top replies asserting, “That fourth encounter is both the best and worst they’ve ever designed. Teaching it is a nightmare.” Another user stated that Salvation’s Edge “actively punishes newcomers attempting it for the first time.”
Older raids present their own challenges, as they can intimidate new players who lack experienced guides. Moreover, seasoned players, or “sherpas,”often find little motivation to assist others through these demanding encounters, given the heavy workload involved and the lack of efficient loot farming methods.
Currently, Destiny 2 boasts numerous endgame activities, from raids to dungeons, yet finding a group via Looking for Group (LFG) tools can feel like an uphill battle when it comes to Salvation’s Edge. Fans of the game are hopeful that Bungie will strike the right balance, catering to both seasoned veterans and newcomers alike.
