The Destiny 2 community is currently buzzing about a perplexing glitch that disrupts gameplay mechanics, particularly affecting items, abilities, and weapon functionalities during extended gaming sessions.
On February 4, 2024, the launch of Destiny 2: Heresy Act 1 introduced a variety of updates designed to enhance the online gaming experience. Among these updates were the new PvE challenge known as The Nether, a fresh Artifact, and several weapon adjustments. However, players also experienced some frustrating bugs, including previously identified issues regarding healing mechanics in The Nether and challenges with the Overload Machine Gun perk that have since been addressed.
Community Pleas for a Resolution to a Serious Glitch
A rising post in the Destiny 2 subreddit highlights a significant, ongoing issue that arises after prolonged gameplay. The original poster, Scrin1759, noted that they started experiencing this glitch while participating in various activities including The Nether, Pale Heart, and Lost Sectors. According to them, after long sessions, certain game features malfunction.
Specifically, buffs such as Devour and Restoration unexpectedly fail to activate. Furthermore, Glaives cease to generate shield energy upon hitting projectiles. The poster also mentioned that switching weapons leads to some becoming invisible, and abilities requiring third-person animations remain stuck in the first-person view.

Scrin1759 added that this glitch predominantly manifests during solo play, although it occasionally behaves similarly during group activities in The Nether. The reasons for this disruption are still unknown.
Other players chimed in, expressing that they too have faced similar issues, including invisible guns and non-functional buffs. One user lamented, “Yeah, I’ve died so many times now in expert Nether because Knockout stopped healing me.”
Interestingly, some players recalled that this glitch is not novel, linking its origins to the release of Episode Revenant in October 2024. They attributed the problem to the overwhelming number of Dark Ether charges that can accumulate, suggesting that the game might struggle to manage concurrent effects.
Several members of the community speculated that a memory-related issue might be at play, where the game cannot effectively keep track of all active items simultaneously.
Fortunately, Bungie has acknowledged the situation. The official account of Destiny2Team responded to the original post, requesting additional information to expedite a potential fix. Until a resolution comes to light, players are left hoping for a timely remedy.
