Destiny 2 Delays Poorly Received Game Mode While Developers Create a Long-Term Strategy

Destiny 2 developers are currently removing Gambit from the main menu due to the introduction of a new Portal feature. The team requires additional time to determine the future of the game mode.

Destiny 2 is undergoing significant changes, especially with the upcoming 10th Anniversary of the franchise. Bungie has revealed some major shifts for the game, detailing future plans, events both in and out of the game, and a commitment to maintain clear communication with the concerned player base.

As part of this update, a new feature called the Portal is being instituted, allowing players to easily select their preferred activities. Previously, players relied on the Destinations tab to find specific activities, which required navigating to different areas.

However, Gambit, one of the less popular game modes in Destiny 2, will not be part of the new Portal. Developers have decided to keep it within the old Destinations tab as they continue to strategize its future.

As the Portal feature is implemented, Gambit will be further marginalized while developers explore options for the mode.

Gambit will not be featured alongside other activities like Crucible, Strikes, or Dungeons in the Portal tab; it will remain accessible solely through the Destinations tab.

“We are still figuring out our plan for this beloved game mode, and we have some ideas ranging from closer integration into the Crucible category to standalone Events that feature it,” the blog post states.

Gambit has historically been a divisive and less favored mode in Destiny 2. Although creatively designed, the PvEvP gameplay was often overlooked by players, with many only participating for their weekly power bonus. Currently, the developers aim to reconstitute it as a minor component of the Crucible activities.
