Destiny 2 Developers Disable Hawkmoon in PvP Due to Game-Breaking Exploit

Hawkmoon has been a popular choice for players in Destiny 2 PvP modes for a significant period of time. However, Bungie has recently announced that the gun will be temporarily unavailable due to an unintentional exploit.

The Exotic 140 RPM Hand Cannon, Hawkmoon, has gained widespread popularity in PvP game modes. Its impressive time to kill and the unique perk Paracausal Shot make it a top contender in the Crucible.

The sudden ban was a result of an exploit involving the Exotic perk Paracausal Shot. According to its intended function, the perk grants stacks of Paracausal Charge for final blows and precision hits with Hawkmoon. The final round in the magazine deals additional damage based on the number of stacks, but this bonus is removed if the weapon is stowed during the final round.

Despite the intended use of stowing the Hand Cannon, PvP players were exploiting the Kinetic Holster leg mod to reload their weapon using their Ghost. This allowed them to reload the final round of the magazine within 1 second without losing the Paracausal Shot buff, resulting in endless shots with increased damage.

Crucible players may need to look for a new Kinetic weapon while Hawkmoon is disabled.

The possibility of this overshadowing PvP is clearly evident, as several players have already shared experiences of being one-tapped multiple times by Hawkmoon users, most likely taking advantage of this unintended interaction. This exploit could have caused significant issues during the upcoming Trials of Osiris weekend on June 28.

The confirmation of disabling Private Crucible match rewards by Bungie came just a day after news broke that players had been exploiting short solo lobbies to farm gear such as Enhancement Prisms and Red Border weapons.

As of now, Bungie has not announced a date for the reinstatement of Hawkmoon, and it continues to be disabled for use in PvP at the time of writing. Nevertheless, players can still take advantage of this exploit in PvE, although its effect may not be as significant.
