Destiny 2 Developers Remove Surges Amidst Balance Concerns

The developers of Destiny 2 have declared their plan to eliminate Surges from raids and dungeons, while also tweaking the tuning to ensure that players will always possess them.

The developers of Destiny 2 at Bungie have announced in a TWID that they plan to remove Surges from raids and dungeons in an upcoming update. However, they will be making adjustments to the encounters to ensure that players still have access to the power granted by Surges, ultimately resulting in an overall buff for players.

This announcement was made in response to player apprehension following the alterations in the power system of dungeons and raids in The Final Shape. The introduction of Surges was initially intended to motivate players to continuously engage in buildcrafting, enhancing the diversity of endgame pursuits.

Nevertheless, this alteration ended up being more constraining than stimulating for numerous Guardians. Players have expressed that they felt restricted in their choices, as Surges were specifically tailored to one subtype. As a result, the developers promptly decided to completely remove them.

The Final Shape’s raid should be a little smoother once these balance changes roll out.

The June 20th TWID has confirmed that surges will be removed from raids and dungeons, and tuning will be adjusted so that performance will be consistent as if surges were still present.

This indicates that regardless of the subtype of your weapon, it will inflict damage as if it were affected by a Surge. As a result, you will have increased damage overall. This is expected to make it easier to handle challenging mechanics found in raids such as Salvation’s Edge.

“The recent update, The Final Shape, will increase outgoing damage in dungeons and decrease the gap between raids and other activities. Additionally, it removes obstacles for players to freely create and customize their builds.”

The developers have announced that this project is still a work in progress and they will continue to listen to player feedback and make necessary adjustments accordingly.
