Destiny 2 Developers Speak Out on the Future of the Franchise After Layoffs

Following a series of mass layoffs, Bungie, the developers of Destiny 2, have taken to social media to address their future plans for the franchise.

Bungie’s popular game, Destiny 2, is currently at a crucial point. The release of The Final Shape served as a reminder to fans of why they fell in love with the game and left them eagerly anticipating the developer’s future plans for the series.

Despite the positive reception of the latest content release, Bungie revealed plans to lay off 220 employees, which accounts for approximately 17% of the studio’s workforce. This, coupled with leaked information about significant downgrades to future content drops in Destiny 2, caused players to express concern and consider abandoning the franchise entirely.

Currently, the remaining developers have stepped up on X (previously known as Twitter) to acknowledge and address concerns regarding the long-term sustainability of Destiny 2 and discuss the future direction of the franchise.

The developers reassured that although there has been uncertainty surrounding the future of Destiny due to recent changes at Bungie, their commitment to the game and supporting the community with transparency remains unchanged. They also promised to continue providing regular updates about the game.

The developers also mentioned their intentions to discuss the future of Destiny and will be revealing their ideas for their upcoming “multi-year journey”in the near future.

The developers reiterated their commitment to transparency and providing regular updates about the game in the 8 August TWID. Bungie also assured players that their previous plans for game content will not be affected by the recent workforce reduction.

Currently, we must wait and observe what will happen for Guardians worldwide as Bungie manages the future of Destiny and their new Marathon game with a smaller team.
