The developers of Destiny 2 have announced a return to their seasonal model in the near future, discontinuing the Episodes format less than a year after its introduction.
Throughout its 10-year history, one of the main challenges for Destiny 2 has been the ongoing demand for fresh content. When there are no new objectives to pursue, the gameplay can feel repetitive, particularly for dedicated players with thousands of hours invested in the game.
This issue intensifies in the absence of major expansions, leaving players with little to anticipate. To combat this, Bungie has continuously sought to introduce seasonal content that features an evolving narrative to maintain engagement within their looter shooter.
Previously, the seasonal structure comprised four seasons a year, but Bungie shifted to Episodes, which were designed as more extensive content delivered over three acts. This adjustment was intended to provide a deeper narrative experience instead of concluding one storyline each season. However, the developers have decided to revert this change, announcing that Episodes will be phased out soon.
Destiny 2 will revert to a structure of four seasons per year, accompanied by two expansions annually.
The second season tied to each expansion will revitalize the core game, featuring both new and returning content including Strikes and Exotic missions. Additionally, this season will introduce fresh and returning rewards, weekly events, and updates to combat and weapon balancing.
This announcement comes amidst player dissatisfaction with the Episode format, as many believe it failed to eliminate the “fodder” that has been a longstanding issue in the game.
