Bungie is set to unveil transformative updates to Destiny 2 with the launch of Episode Heresy, which includes significant enhancements to the Arc subclasses. Among the most anticipated changes is the potential reintroduction of the iconic Zhalo Supercell, an Exotic weapon that has not made its way to the sequel.
Unlike other Exotics, such as No Land Beyond, which were withheld due to balancing issues, the Zhalo Supercell’s absence is largely attributed to its diminished relevance over the past seven years. The Arc-element Auto Rifle, once a fan favorite, has seen its niche filled by more contemporary gear.
Consider Riskrunner, which features the Superconductor perk that replicates Zhalo’s ability to create electric chains between enemies, though it requires specific conditions. Furthermore, the original Zhalo’s unique feature of delivering Elemental damage through a primary weapon would not hold the same weight in the current sandbox of Destiny 2.
However, with the introduction of a novel, Arc-centric mechanic in the forthcoming episode, a revamped version of Zhalo Supercell could be the ideal companion for the Light subclass.
Introducing Bolt Charge
The new mechanic, Bolt Charge, allows players to accumulate a stacking buff through selected Fragments, Aspects, and weapon perks. Each stack provides melee energy, and upon reaching a total of 10 stacks, the next ability unleashes a powerful lightning bolt, dealing damage similar to Solar Ignitions.
How might Zhalo Supercell integrate into this innovative gameplay mechanic? With Bungie already indicating that weapon perks will contribute to Bolt Stacks, transforming this Auto Rifle into an Exotic-strength generator could align perfectly with its intended function as an Arc tool.
While Zhalo Supercell remains one of the beloved Exotics from the original Destiny, it has not been included in the sequel.
While a reimagined version of Zhalo Supercell would differ significantly from its original form, this is not unprecedented. Recently, iconic weapons such as Ice Breaker in Episode Revenant and others like Dragon’s Breath and Hard Light received major overhauls upon their return.
