Destiny 2 Glaive: Glitches and Player Frustration

Despite the frustration of users, it appears that the melee weapon, Glaives in Destiny 2, is still plagued by glitches.

Glaives, a type of weapon, were introduced with The Witch Queen expansion in February 2022. The arrival of this new weapon was well-received by players, as Destiny 2 had previously only provided one melee option.

Despite the two-plus years that have passed, Glaive users continue to struggle. In October 2023, players were still advocating for buffs, as they believed Bungie had neglected the weapon class for too long.

Despite the recent fix in the game’s 8.0.5.2 patch for a bug that had decreased the melee damage of Glaives, the community remains of the opinion that the melee weapon still requires significant improvements.

A Reddit user, who is a fan of Destiny 2, brought to attention that Glaives are still plagued with both new and old bugs, some of which date back to The Witch Queen era.

The 2022 glitch has been an ongoing issue for Glaive players, causing them to not receive Melee Ability energy from sources such as the Graviton Forfeit perk. Additionally, the player mentioned that Glaive attacks in the Crucible continue to have lower damage than intended.

Despite Bungie’s acknowledgement that Destiny 2’s August 6 update was meant to increase melee damage in PvE by 20%, it was discovered that the change was not implemented. The details of how this issue was resolved in the August 20 patch are currently unclear.

Furthermore, a different recent improvement eliminated the audio cue that would play when adversaries were harmed by Glaive strikes.

While not all of these bugs require immediate action from Bungie, there are a few that have been around for so long that Glaive users may feel neglected by Destiny 2.

“One player expressed disappointment in the comments, stating that their pugilist and Wellspring glaive combination was ineffective.”

“In response, someone else pointed out that Glaives are similar to [Marvel’s] Gambit. They mentioned that Bungie initially showed enthusiasm for them, but eventually completely stopped supporting them.”

Currently, players can only anticipate the arrival of more improvements related to the Glaive, hopefully sooner rather than later.
