Destiny 2’s mysterious vendor of rare items, Xur, has returned to the Tower, bringing with him an exclusive offering this week.
From September 20 to the weekly reset on September 24, Xur is selling the Exotic Rocket Launcher Gjallarhorn for just 23 Strange Coins. But what makes this event significant?
There are two key reasons. Firstly, Gjallarhorn is typically available only from the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon, which is part of Destiny 2’s paid 30th Anniversary Pack released in December 2021. Secondly, September 20, 2024, marks a nostalgic occasion as it is exactly 10 years since Xur first offered this weapon in the original Destiny.
Recognized for its rarity and unmatched power as an Exotic heavy weapon in 2014, Gjallarhorn quickly became a sought-after item during the early days of the franchise. Its accessibility increased with its reintroduction in the 2016 Rise of Iron expansion.
Xur has never made Gjallarhorn available in Destiny 2 until now.
This alone should incentivize players who do not have Gjallarhorn to visit Xur this week, but there’s more good news. Catalysts for Le Monarque and Polaris Lance, both of which are currently relevant in the meta, are also up for grabs for 71 Strange Coins each.
It remains unclear whether Gjallarhorn’s appearance in Xur’s inventory is a one-time celebration of a specific milestone or if Bungie plans to make it a recurring special offer. Given that Xur has never previously sold Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2, it seems more likely to be a unique event.
Destiny 2’s Episode Echoes season will conclude on October 8, with Episode Revenant set to replace it on the same day.
