In response to persistent community feedback, the cap on Strange Coins in Destiny 2 is set to increase, allowing players to gather and spend more at Xur. However, players will need to be patient as this enhancement won’t be available immediately.
As detailed in the This Week at Bungie (TWID) article published on January 9, 2025, the Strange Coin limit will rise from 99 to 199. This update means players can accumulate more currencies and engage more fully with Xur during his weekend visits.
Unfortunately, this sought-after adjustment is not forthcoming just yet; Bungie announced that it will be included in the upcoming Heresy Act 1, which is slated for release on February 4, 2024. Players will need to wait a few weeks more to benefit from this change.
Apart from the Strange Coin cap increase, the update also enhances other game aspects. The cap on Nightfall Ciphers and Osirian Ciphers will be elevated from 10 to 30. The latter will be part of a series of adjustments to the Trials of Osiris in Episode Heresy, marking a broader commitment to improving player experience.
The adjustment to the Strange Coin cap means players can finally maximize their purchases at Xur’s weekend booths.
Bungie Responds to Community Needs
Since the release of The Final Shape, the Strange Coin cap has sparked considerable discussion among players. The revision of Xur’s role and the designation of Strange Coins as his primary currency led to increased frustrations due to the existing cap.
Numerous discussions emerged on platforms like Reddit, with players expressing their discontent. One user posed the question, “Why are we limited to 99 Strange Coins?” just after the update launched seven months ago. Another post from October 2024 called for a much-needed cap increase, echoing the growing dissatisfaction regarding the issue.
As recently as early January, players continued to voice their concerns. A Guardian suggested, “It’s time to remove the cap on Strange Coins or just make Xur a permanent vendor,” reflecting a belief that the current constraints unfairly impact those unable to play on weekends.
The overwhelming community support for these conversations, with several threads garnering over 1,000 upvotes each, signaled to Bungie the necessity for change. Ultimately, the game’s developer has heeded this extensive feedback and is implementing the long-awaited update.
