Destiny 2 players can claim over 3,000 Bright Dust for free

Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2, is offering a free compensation of over 3,000 Bright Dust for an oversight with the Pathfinder system.

Every week for the next nine weeks, players can claim 350 Bright Dust from the Eververse Store, totaling to a maximum of 3,150 Bright Dust that can be obtained for free by Guardians.

The initial batch of items became available on August 6 and will continue to be featured in the Eververse store until the weekly reset on August 13. After that, a new batch will take its place and this rotation will continue until October 1, 2024.

Dylan Garner, Bungie’s global community lead, has verified this information by posting on X/Twitter, “Just a friendly reminder that the weekly free Bright Dust will begin this week. You can collect 350 Bright Dust every week for a total of nine weeks from the Eververse tab.”

According to Garner’s explanation on Reddit, Bungie is giving away a significant amount of free Bright Dust due to players not earning as much under the new Pathfinder system released with The Final Shape.

The leader of the community then explained, “Our intention was to proactively address this issue and provide a make good to ensure that everyone was caught up. There were never any plans to decrease the rates of XP or Bright Dust earning. We had planned to announce this last week, but due to a delay, we were unable to do so. This was originally meant to be shared in the delayed TWID following the recent layoffs.

Bright Dust is a valuable form of currency that can be used to purchase specific cosmetics that typically require Destiny 2’s premium currency, Silver. These items include shaders, sparrows, ships, and even ornaments for Exotic weapons and armor.

Obtaining Bright Dust can be quite challenging, as it is only obtainable through event bounties such as those found in Solstice 2024, completing seasonal challenges, and farming Pathfinder. However, the fact that players can now receive a significant amount of it for free is a major advantage, as they can use it to purchase cosmetics that they may have otherwise been unable to obtain.
