Destiny 2 Players Struggle to Determine Best Roll for Iconic Weapon

The Into the Light update has brought back The Recluse in Destiny 2. Despite this, it remains unclear what the most optimal rolls are, as players have different preferences.

Ever since its release, Destiny 2: Into the Light has been a welcome change for the game, serving as a much-needed victory following a challenging year. The latest update introduced the popular Onslaught mode and the Brave arsenal, which has re-introduced numerous beloved weapons from Destiny 2’s history.

One of the most infamous weapons of all time, The Recluse, is included in this category. Before sunset, this weapon was considered game-breaking and was a staple in most players’ loadouts. However, with the implementation of nerfs and the game shifting towards a focus on abilities, the current version of The Recluse has gone from being hailed as ‘the ultimate primary weapon’ to simply being ‘decent’.

Yet, what remains intriguing about this reissued weapon is that despite its array of new perk options, there is no consensus on which one is the most effective.

In Destiny 2, there are typically distinct and favored perk combinations for most weapons. These roles may vary for PvE or PvP, or between damage and utility, but ultimately, a few specific rolls will commonly emerge as the most popular choices.

The Recluse is an exception to this trend. According to Light.gg, this weapon is highly sought after by Guardians due to its wide range of perk combinations. The most commonly used combination is Repulsor Brace + Master of Arms, with a usage rate of 5.42%. However, there are several other popular combinations, all within a close range of usage percentages. Here is a breakdown of these combinations:

  • Repulsor Brace + Master of Arms – 5.42%
  • Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing Rounds – 5.42%
  • Subsistence + Desperate Measures – 5.28%
  • Feeding Frenzy + Destabilizing Rounds – 4.93%
  • Threat Detector + Master of Arms – 3.69%
  • Subsistence + Master of Arms – 3.36%
  • Dynamic Sway Reduction + Destabilizing Rounds – 3.37%
  • Threat Detector + Desperate Measures – 3.24%

The fact that the percentages of perk combinations are so similar is uncommon, indicating that there is no clear consensus on the most effective choice. Nevertheless, this also suggests that there are numerous successful roles for the SMG, making it unlikely to receive a unfavorable combination.

Perhaps a definitive victor will arise in the future, but for now, whatever you believe is the most suitable roll for your playstyle is likely the best choice.
