Destiny 2 Power Changes: No Need to Level Up All Your Weapons

Destiny 2’s implementation of The Final Shape brought about significant alterations to the way Power Level operates. Among these adjustments is a notable impact on weapons and their role in bolstering a Guardian’s overall power.

After analyzing the changes made in the Crucible, Destiny 2 data analyst MossyMax determined that the Power level of individual weapons no longer has a significant impact in most activities, including those that do not utilize the new Fireteam Power feature.

They clarified that the rationale behind this decision is that the game now considers every weapon to have the same gear power as your overall gear, rather than assigning a separate power to each individual weapon.

Although players working towards The Final Shape’s Pinnacle cap will still need to infuse weapons in order to increase their overall Power, there is now no need to concern oneself with the process after reaching 2000 Power.

The alteration does not have a direct impact on gameplay, but it does decrease the amount of resources required for players who have already reached the power cap.

A major benefit of this discovery is a decrease in the consumption of Upgrade Modules. These modules are typically used to infuse gear whenever the maximum Power Level is increased. However, with the new feature that automatically adjusts individual weapon Power to match a Guardian’s overall rating, the need for this process becomes unnecessary once a Power Level of 2000 is reached in most activities.

Players can save a significant amount of Glimmer and Enhancement Cores by disregarding the 10 Power deficit, as weapons and armor do not drop at Pinnacle Power (with a default Powerful cap of 1990).

MossyMax emphasizes that despite everything, the “Math remains consistent, using one multiplier for your weapon’s power level and another for your overall power level. The equations presume that your weapon’s power level is equivalent to your overall power level.”

Despite this minor caveat, there is still a loss of minor damage in rare situations where a weapon’s Power surpasses that of a Guardian’s Light Level. MossyMax acknowledges this trade-off, stating that it is one of the sacrifices made in this system. However, it is important to note that most activities have a Power cap, rendering this issue only applicable in Trials and Legend Lost Sectors.
