There are many exciting elements to discover in Destiny 2: The Final Shape even after completing the campaign, such as a variety of new modes to experience. One of these is Overthrow, a semi-World Event that features multiple objectives to complete.
Additionally, it is instrumental in obtaining the latest Exotics introduced in the expansion, which are highly coveted items within the game.
To provide a better understanding of the mechanics of Overthrow in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, we have compiled a guide outlining how the mode operates and the key strategies for achieving success in it.
How Overthrow Works
Overthrow can only be attempted after completing all of the expansion’s story missions. It is also available in each of the three main regions of The Pale Heart: The Impasse, The Landing, and The Blooming.
To access the mode, you have the option to either activate it while in-game by visiting these designated areas, or join a public Overthrow match by choosing the orange logo in one of the three regions on the map.
In each run of the mode, you will advance through three tiers. As you accumulate 1,000 points, you will unlock the next tier, which will introduce tougher enemies and objectives.
The main objective of Overthrow is to accumulate a sufficient number of points in order to initiate the final boss battle during a run. This entails achieving a total of 3,000 points, which can be accomplished through various means:
- Kill enemies
- Complete mini-events around the area
- Open Corrupted Chests
- Defeat powerful enemies
Once you meet the point requirements, your Ghost will mark the boss’s location on the map. During an Overthrow run, three different bosses can appear, but which one you encounter is determined randomly.
Overthrow Tips & Tricks
To truly maximize the benefits of Overthrow, it may require a significant amount of time and dedication. Therefore, it is essential to familiarize yourself with some useful tips and tricks to gain an advantage in the competition.
Do Not Make Killing Enemies Your Main Focus
Although eliminating the Taken in Overthrow may be the simplest method to accumulate points, it is also the most time-consuming. Each kill only yields one point, making it a tedious process to reach 3,000 points. Therefore, prioritizing enemy kills should not be your primary goal.
Mini-Events
The mini-events that occur during a run will yield the highest point totals in the least amount of time. Upon completion, each mini-event should reward approximately 450 points and typically involve battling enemies until a mini-boss appears.
Bring Friends with You
Although Overthrow can be done alone, having a complete Fireteam will consistently give you the highest chance of earning more points. As a team of three, you can divide and conquer multiple mini-events, resulting in a significant increase in points that would otherwise be missed.
Look out for high-value targets
Defeating Overthrow’s larger adversaries will earn you 100 points each time. Eliminating a few from each tier can greatly accelerate your advancement in the event.
Save your Heavy ammo
To effectively combat the smaller enemies in each Tier, it is advised to prioritize using your two Primaries and conserve your Heavy ammo. This will ensure that you have enough ammunition to take down the final boss without any difficulty. Your standard guns will easily handle the smaller enemies before that final battle.
“In Destiny 2: The Final Shape, Overthrow is just one of many new events to conquer. It is important to also familiarize yourself with other modes such as the Pantheon, the Salvation’s Edge raid, and the first episode of post-expansion content titled Echoes.”
