On January 14, Destiny 2 will roll out a significant patch designed to address the longstanding Guitar error, an issue that has plagued players for nearly seven years. This error, linked to memory failures, has been a recurring headache since at least 2018, when Bungie first documented the problem.
The Guitar error typically presents itself when an excess of items aren’t collected during gameplay, particularly manifesting during intense activities. This issue has been increasingly frustrating for players, especially since the launch of The Final Shape expansion, which has introduced additional challenges.
Patch 8.1.5.3: A Potential Solution for Guitar Errors
The upcoming update, known as 8.1.5.3, will specifically target Guitar errors affecting key gameplay areas including Pale Heart, Neomuna, and Dreaming City. As noted in a recent post by the Bungie Help Twitter/X account, this patch is intended to resolve many of the issues players have been facing.
Despite these optimistic expectations, it’s important to note that not all Guitar-related errors are expected to be eliminated. A follow-up tweet from the Bungie team acknowledged that while they aim to fix a substantial number of these errors, some may persist. This suggests an ongoing commitment to monitor the update’s impact and to assess which issues remain unresolved.
Frustrations among players reached a peak in early January 2025 when a featured Liminality Nightfall became unplayable due to recurring Guitar errors. This prompted Bungie to replace it with the Birthplace of the Vile activity, further highlighting the error’s disruptive nature.
As the community awaits the 8.1.5.3 patch, there’s a sense of cautious skepticism regarding its effectiveness. In discussions on platforms like Reddit, some players expressed that the phrasing of Bungie’s communications has not instilled confidence in the likelihood of a comprehensive fix.
Overall, the upcoming patch represents a hopeful step in addressing the Guitar error, but players remain watchful, eager to see if Bungie can successfully alleviate this long-standing issue.
