After the debut of Destiny 2’s Vesper’s Host Dungeon, many players have voiced suspicions that certain perks and combinations of randomly rolled weapons might have enhanced drop rates. In response to these claims, Bungie has spoken out.
For instance, a user on X/Twitter referenced the VS Chill Inhibitor, a Grenade Launcher from the Vesper’s Host, on October 21. They claimed that their analysis using a “binomial test” indicated that the popular perk combination of Envious Arsenal & Bait and Switch had lower probabilities of appearing than other perks.
Another player echoed these thoughts, noting their personal gaming experience: “I genuinely believe there’s a weighting system in place since I actively play, but the statistics seem to vanish before the API is released.”
Bungie claims there is no weighted system for perks, which raises questions about how certain perks could be favored. 🤔 I really suspect they DO weight aspects, as per my gameplay experience, but the stats are sanitized before API release. https://t.co/JRbUUdGZ6m pic.twitter.com/X2H3GeOftf

This topic eventually spilled over to the Destiny 2 subreddit, where Bungie acknowledged the ongoing discussion and provided a response in a thread entitled “Perk Weighting – True or False?” .
The developers confirmed, “Hello everyone, we had a dialogue with our Sandbox team today regarding this matter. Currently, there is no active perk weighting for any Legendary weapon perks in Destiny 2.” They noted that a recent update had introduced perk attunement for Exotic Class Items, but clarified that this operates under a separate system.
In addition to Bungie’s statement, a former employee also chimed in. They remarked, “In the engine’s coding, there isn’t a mechanism to weight perks on weapons. While items themselves can have a weighting, individual perks do not.”
There’s no mechanism in the code of the engine to weight perk drops on a weapon. Items can be weighted if I recall correctly, but individual perks can’t be. Alternate questions: Can you confirm there isn’t a roll at all? Were these all only Activation runs? https://t.co/yZeTtD9cjf

Despite the clarity provided by these statements, the debate about weighted perks isn’t new within the Destiny 2 community. Back in a 2022 blog post, Bungie previously addressed this same concern.
The studio asserted, “All weapon perks are treated equally under all circumstances. No situation exists within the game where one perk has a higher likelihood of rolling than another.”
The bottom line? If you’re still searching for that elusive god roll after countless hours, the only factor standing in your way is sheer luck.
