Destiny 2’s Alternate Ending Cutscene Revealed Before Delays

The closing cutscene for Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion underwent significant changes before the delays were announced. The developers carefully revised the story’s ending to add more emotional impact.

The Final Shape in Destiny 2 has been a monumental success for the series. This expansion marked the conclusion of the Light and Dark saga, bringing closure to a decade-long narrative that had players eagerly anticipating its outcome worldwide.

The fan base not only loved the story, but also gave the expansion a very high rating as a whole. This was fortunate because the release of the expansion was delayed, causing many players to become increasingly tired of the looter shooter.

Luckily, the wait for the story was well rewarded as the delay allowed for changes to be made. The new cut cinematic now showcases the developers’ original vision for the final cutscene of the story.

Caution: This article contains spoilers for Destiny 2 The Final Shape

The concluding cutscene of The Final Shape shows the Ghost in a dire state, requiring revival. After directing the light into the Witness and defeating them once and for all, the Ghost was on the verge of death. In a selfless act, Cayde-6 steps in and sacrifices himself to bring our Ghost back to life, ultimately fading away into the Light and bidding our Guardians a heartfelt goodbye.

Despite initial expectations, the final cut of the cinematic presented a much milder conclusion. In this version, Cayde-6 not only manages to survive the confrontation, but the Guardian utilizes their abilities of Light and Darkness to successfully revive the Ghost, resulting in a satisfying ending for all.

While the ending we received was certainly more emotionally impactful, it also meant having to bid farewell to our dear friend once again. However, this only heightened the devastation of the expansion’s conclusion and truly marked the beginning of a new era for Destiny 2.
