The latest Subclass, Prismatic, was recently announced by Bungie and will be included in The Final Shape. While players have been eagerly anticipating the new gameplay possibilities that Prismatic will offer in Destiny 2, some have raised concerns about its practicality in PvP situations.
Given the chance to combine various abilities and devise an array of different builds, could Prismatic disrupt the equilibrium in the Crucible?
What is the Function of Prismatic in Destiny 2?
According to Bungie, Prismatic is a highly developed subclass that introduces a whole new level of gameplay and tactics. In simple terms, Guardians will have the ability to combine different damage types from both Light and Dark to create unique abilities. As a Hunter, for instance, you can utilize arc abilities to trigger the Jolt effect, in addition to using Stasis abilities to freeze and slow down enemies. This concept can be applied to all classes in Destiny 2.
In The Final Shape, players are rewarded with a new power known as Transcendence. When using Prismatic, players will notice a light and dark meter that can be filled. Once both meters are filled, Guardians can unleash a unique power that combines the abilities of various damage types and elements.
Moreover, the possibilities don’t end there. The Final Shape expansion will allow Guardians to merge two Exotic Armor perks not just from different exotics within their own class, but also from different classes.
While the concept of implementing all these new customization options seems promising, it is uncertain how it will impact PvP gameplay.
The Potential Impact of Prismatic in PvP Battles
Despite Bungie’s lack of clarification on how Prismatic will work in a PvP environment, their track record with PvP balance has been less than perfect in the past.
Despite player complaints about the introduction of Stasis and Strand into the Destiny 2 sandbox, Bungie only addressed these concerns after a significant amount of time had passed since their launch. The game-balance fixes were implemented on both occasions, but only after a delay.
With Prismatic now offering players the opportunity to merge various abilities from varying subclasses, the issue of game balance has once again been brought into discussion. It remains to be seen if Bungie has already developed a solution for this, but with The Final Shape set to release in less than two months, the answer will soon be revealed.
