Destiny Mobile Game Rumors: What We Know About Destiny Rising

The Destiny 2 community is buzzing with speculation about a mobile game that Bungie may be developing, reportedly titled Destiny Rising. Here’s what we currently know about this anticipated title.

Destiny seems to be facing challenges, with players’ enthusiasm for the franchise diminishing due to recent layoffs and significant content changes. The drastic shifts since the Final Shape expansion have left players uncertain about Bungie’s plans for the future of their cherished looter shooter.

Recent rumors have surfaced about a new mobile Destiny project in collaboration with NetEase. But is this game actually in the works? Here are the details.

Destiny Mobile Game Rumors

Back in 2022, whispers began circulating that NetEase and Bungie were collaborating on a mobile FPS game set in the Destiny universe. Reports indicated that this project had been in development for “well over two years” at that time and was internally referred to as “Viper” .

Destiny Rising

Fast forward to 2024, following substantial layoffs at Bungie, which led to a reduction in content for Destiny 2 and the cancellation of another spinoff titled “Payback” .

However, prominent video game insider Kurakasis recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) that, despite the turmoil at Bungie, the mobile game project is still ongoing and has not been scrapped. If the 2022 rumors hold true, this game has been in development for approximately four years.

Insider Jeff Grubb has also indicated that NetEase is leading the game’s development and that instead of Guardians, players will control Hero characters.

Grubb further mentioned that the game would capture the essence of Destiny but be tailored for mobile devices, and it might be announced soon.

New Website and Social Media Accounts Hint at Imminent Reveal

The recent registration of multiple social media accounts suggests that the Destiny Rising reveal may be on the horizon.

On August 21, 2024, the domain playdestinyrising.com was registered, with details showing it was managed by MarkMonitor Inc., the same broker used for other NetEase titles like Naraka: Bladepoint.

Additionally, new social media accounts for Destiny Rising have emerged across major platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, using the handle “PlayDestinyRising” , consistent with the registered domain. These accounts were created on August 22, 2024, just a day after the domain registration.

An X (Twitter) account was also set up under the handle _DestinyRising; while the profile is currently private, obscured images and banners indicate placeholders for an upcoming announcement. All signs point to the possibility of an imminent reveal for Destiny Rising.

Destiny 2 Community in Disarray

While the news confirms that the Destiny mobile game remains in development, it has left much of the community feeling sad and skeptical.

“This is extremely sad. Everyone should pour one out for us Bungie veterans who fell in love with a different company,” lamented one player on social media.

“The ship was already mostly sunk and then hit by a torpedo,” another player mourned.

As of now, Bungie has yet to officially announce any new titles, leaving the community uncertain about the developers’ plans. It’s important to take all of this information with caution, as development paths frequently change.
