Detective Conan Creator’s Yaiba Manga Receives New Anime Adaptation

The 24th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday revealed a visual on May 7, 2024, announcing that a new anime adaptation (remake) of Gosho Aoyama’s manga series Yaiba will be released.

In order to further announce Gosho-san’s involvement in this anime project, a new website and X handle have been established.

It is worth mentioning that Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday serialized Gosho Aoyama’s manga series from 1988 to 1993, and the chapters were compiled into 24 tankobon volumes.

The second anime adaptation will continue the story from the previous 52-episode series, titled Kenyu Dentesu Yaiba, which originally aired from 1993 to 1994. However, there is currently no information available regarding the release date, cast and staff, or production company.

On May 7, 2024, the 24th issue of Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine, Weekly Shonen Sunday, announced with a special illustration that Yaiba, a manga series created by Gosho Aoyama, the creator of Detective Conan, will be receiving a new anime adaptation.

The main responsibility of the author is overseeing the production of the anime. It is worth mentioning that a promotional video and visual were shared through a newly created website and X (previously known as Twitter) account. This PV serves as confirmation of the anime’s production and showcases a hand-drawn commemorative visual.

The depiction, created by Gosho Aoyama-san, showcases the main character with a sword in hand. He is dressed in traditional Japanese clothing and has a determined expression. The visual also includes multiple blades surrounding the young samurai.

Additionally, comments from Gosho Aoyama have been posted on the website and X handle. The renowned manga artist encouraged viewers to watch the anime, even if they are unfamiliar with the series. Significantly, the special video, created to celebrate the anime adaptation, includes the author’s remarks.

Despite the lack of information, the anime’s release date, cast and staff, and production house remain undisclosed at this time. Fans can anticipate future updates from the official staff. However, the announcement has already sparked curiosity among fans.

The upcoming anime is the second adaptation, following the 52-episode series that aired on TV Tokyo from 1993 to 1994. The main character has been mentioned multiple times in Gosho-san’s Detective Conan Series and even made an appearance in the OVA, Conan vs. Kid vs. Yaiba – The Grand Battle for the Treasure Sword, showcasing the character’s popularity.

Notably, the upcoming anime will center on Yaiba Kurogane, the titular hero and a young Samurai who has completed his training with his father in the jungle and returned to Japan. While there, he comes face to face with his rival Onimaru Takeshi. This encounter leads Kurogane on a thrilling journey as his rival obtains the Legendary Demon Blade.
