Treyarch recently issued a small update addressing various audio problems that were affecting players’ ability to hear nearby enemies in a negative manner.
Despite being a highly debated topic, audio has always been a point of contention. In September 2023, prior to the release of Modern Warfare 3, fans asserted that the audio quality had “never been worse.”
In March 2024, more than a year later, there was a complete shift in public opinion, with players now praising the developers for significantly improving Warzone’s audio, calling it the “best it has ever been.”
Despite this, worries persisted about the game giving more importance to certain sounds over enemy footstep and movement noises. These problems continued into the Black Ops 6 beta, leading Treyarch to take appropriate action in response.
The most recent minor update includes the complete patch notes which can be found here.
- Increased footstep prioritization in sound mix playback
- Increased enemy sliding audio
- Reduced the impact sound when taking damage
The improved footstep prioritization and enhanced enemy sliding audio will enhance the ability to detect nearby enemies. During the beta, there were moments when it was challenging to accurately identify the source of enemy gunfire.
This statement follows Treyarch’s implementation of innovative audio technology in Black Ops 6, which enables players to hear gunfire and footsteps with unprecedented clarity in a Black Ops game.
The development team additionally stated that the new system adjusts the echoes of sounds according to your surroundings and gives priority to teammate noises in order to minimize confusion and friendly fire incidents.
Considering that our exposure to audio modifications has been limited to the beta version, it would be wise to reserve judgment until the full release is available.
It remains uncertain if Treyarch will implement any additional changes in a future update before the beta’s second weekend.
