Devs Share Opinion on Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals Amid Hero Shooter Hype

Fans eager to know what the Overwatch 2 developers think about Marvel Rivals received their answer when streamers inquired about other hero shooters.

In recent times, the hero shooter category has become increasingly competitive, as Marvel Rivals aims to overthrow Overwatch 2 and Valve works on developing a 6v6 MOBA-inspired FPS.

Despite not having a set release date, Marvel Rivals has generated excitement among Overwatch 2 players following its beta playtest. The devs of Overwatch 2 themselves are also eager to witness the development and progress of the game.

While being interviewed by streamers ‘Flats’ and ‘SVB’, Game Director Aaron Keller and Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson were questioned about potential future hero shooters and OW2 imitations.

“SVB inquired whether observing and learning from teams like the one that rhymes with ‘Arvel Kirvals’ who are facing similar challenges to early Overwatch provides valuable lessons. Does allowing them to experiment on your behalf also serve as a source of lessons?”

The segment starts at 1:21:40.

According to Keller, the team is continuously examining other games to observe how they handle challenges, particularly after those titles have found their primary audience.

“We consistently study other games and strive to gain knowledge from them. It will be intriguing to observe any potential changes in these games over time. I believe that a significant portion of the gaming community, particularly the free-to-play community, tends to switch between various games. Those who remain loyal become your core audience.”

The Game Director clarified that the “core audiences”are known for being very vocal about their desired experience and the evolution of the game. Keller emphasized that these competitive players are skilled at identifying balance issues, and it will be the responsibility of the development teams to address and resolve them.

“He expressed interest in observing other game teams as they tackle similar challenges and finding out how they overcome them.”

Alec Dawson added his thoughts, emphasizing the significance of competition in the gaming industry.
