The highly anticipated prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, aims to delve deeper into the life of the iconic fictional serial killer, Dexter Morgan. However, it has already made one notable blunder even before the show’s debut.

Set in 1991, Original Sin showcases a young Dexter Morgan embarking on an internship at Miami-Met. As Dexter grapples with intensifying dark urges, he collaborates with his father to find strategies to manage his murderous instincts.

After the release of Episode 1 on Paramount+, the reception has been varied. One critical aspect of the prequel’s success hinges on effective casting.

Color Controversy: Dexter’s Eyes Shift

One of Michael C. Hall’s most striking characteristics as Dexter was his impactful stare. This gaze has served as a window into Dexter’s concealed darkness as he navigates life in the shadows. However, the initial promotional materials for Original Sin feature a significant misstep concerning his eye color.

While Hall famously has green eyes, the actor Patrick Gibson, portraying young Dexter, has blue eyes. Efforts to rectify this discrepancy included the use of brown contact lenses; however, these still do not replicate Hall’s distinctive green hue.

Fans of Dexter quickly noted this inconsistency upon the release of character posters, sparking conversations across social media. Comments ranged from queries like, “Do they have different eye colors?” to observations about the significant departure from Hall’s eye color.

This isn’t the first time that the series has faced continuity issues regarding Dexter’s appearance. In earlier seasons of the original series, the younger version of Dexter had blue eyes, which also raised eyebrows among fans.

Despite these concerns, a segment of the audience argues that eye color is a minor consideration. Many fans are ready to evaluate the series based on its storytelling and character dynamics rather than mere physical resemblance to Hall’s portrayal.
