With the revival of Dexter through *Dexter: Original Sin*, fans were given an exciting glimpse into the future of the franchise, particularly with the much-anticipated prequel centered on the infamous “Trinity Killer.”
John Lithgow’s portrayal of the “Trinity Killer”during Dexter’s fourth season has left an indelible mark on the series, earning him prestigious accolades including both an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. Although this prequel was initially announced in early 2023, followers of the show have been anxious for any substantial updates regarding its development, especially since they are eager to witness more of this chilling character.
The Progress of the Trinity Killer Prequel
Recent reports indicate that the prequel remains in active development, with familiar faces from the original *Dexter* series stepping in as pivotal contributors. Notably, showrunner Clyde Phillips and producer Scott Reynolds are now co-creators and executive producers, bringing a wealth of experience to the project. As far back as this spring, they organized a development room to flesh out the prequel’s narrative.
During promotional activities for *Dexter: Original Sin*, Phillips provided an encouraging update, explaining, “We wrote the entire Trinity Killer series. At the moment, it is on the back burner.” Importantly, he noted that “John Lithgow has agreed to be the voice of his younger self, the same way Michael Hall is doing for *Original Sin*.”
The Trinity Killer’s complex background offers an array of storytelling possibilities, making it an excellent basis for a gripping horror series. As Phillips elaborated, “There’s that, and we’re also working on another show with Michael C. Hall, titled *Resurrection*. We were writing that while filming *Original Sin*, so there’s a lot going on.” He shared that filming for *Resurrection* is scheduled to start in January, with an expected air date in June 2025.
While the *Trinity Killer* series may have been sidelined temporarily for *Resurrection*, it remains one of the most exciting potential spinoffs to emerge from the iconic series. For now, fans can enjoy *Dexter: Original Sin*, which is currently available for viewing on Paramount+ with Showtime, as they anticipate Michael C. Hall’s return in *Dexter: Resurrection*.
