Diablo 4 bosses began teaming up in Season 3, surprising unwary adventurers in the Vault with deadly encounters.
Diablo 4 Season 3 recently launched. Entitled Season of the Assemblage, it offers players a quest that takes them “under the sands of Kehjistan” . There, ancient technology is hidden and leads to the demon Malphas, who plans to use it to rule Sanctuary.
Despite a monumental launch in 2023, Diablo 4’s seasons have been somewhat uneven. Season of the Evil One launched shortly after the game’s launch, but many felt the new content left something to be desired. Season 3 seems to be no exception, with players criticizing seasonal offerings.
One of these seasonal offerings are the new Vault dungeons. These offer fantastic rewards provided players can complete them. These vaults also feature a new random boss like The Butcher. The latter can spontaneously join the fight against the player. All of this would normally be acceptable, except when The Butcher decides it’s time to join in on the fun.
The Son of Malphas is the new enemy of Season 3 who can appear randomly in the vaults. Like The Butcher, he has a chance to appear while players are clearing the dungeon. This offers a significant challenge.

However, what was not anticipated when the Son of Malphas was introduced was that he might also appear with The Butcher. That’s exactly what happened to Reddit user u/GaunerHarakiri, who experienced what happens when bosses team up.

Fortunately, the player survived this deadly encounter. Maybe thanks to Blizzard’s new seasonal boss nerfs, or maybe he’s just a great Druid.
Either way, this new boss combination should surprise any Diablo 4 player, whether they expect it or not.
