“The players of Diablo 4’s Eternal Realm are expressing their discontent, arguing that Blizzard is neglecting them as Season 5 looms, potentially erasing their hard-earned loot.”
In Diablo 4, players can choose between two main gameplay modes: the Seasonal Realm and the Eternal Realm. The Seasonal Realm requires players to start fresh each season, while the Eternal Realm allows for continuous character progression, making it ideal for those with limited time to commit to a new season.
In Season 4, players were introduced to the concept of tempering and masterworking, which allowed for the upgrading of weapons in both realms. Unfortunately, legacy items, which refer to gear obtained before Season 4, are not eligible for further upgrades.
Season 5, debuting on August 6, will reclassify numerous Season 4 items as legacy gear. This decision renders it unattainable for players who do not currently possess it to obtain the optimal version of their gear. This has left many dedicated players disheartened, as they have dedicated considerable effort to acquiring rare gear that can no longer be upgraded.
The official Diablo 4 forum was filled with frustrated gamers expressing their dissatisfaction. Players of Eternal Realm criticized Blizzard for seemingly prioritizing seasonal content due to the inclusion of a battle pass.
One dissatisfied player sarcastically stated, “At Blizzard, we couldn’t care less about Eternal Realm. Not only did we render your hard-earned gear worthless in Season 4, but we plan on doing it again in Season 5. Our main priority is the battle pass and seasonal content, so Eternal players can continue their pursuit of rare items while we continue to render their gear useless.”
One individual went as far as to threaten filing a complaint if Blizzard continued their trend of rendering gear and weapons useless after each season ends. They stated, “We have paid for this game and continue to support D4. It is time for the D4 Team and Management at Blizzard to do the right thing.”
This player made the case that constantly diminishing the value of their gear is a waste of their time and effort. They are advocating for Blizzard to allow Eternal Realm players to obtain fully upgraded loot from previous Seasons instead of restricting access to it.
Despite the backlash, Blizzard’s dedication to seasonal content appears to be well-received by a large portion of its player community. Season 5 was commended for providing a satisfying conclusion to the game, although it did cause some resentment among Eternal Realm players who felt neglected.
