Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes: A Comprehensive Guide to the Season 5 Endgame Mode

Diablo 4 Season 5 will unveil Infernal Hordes, a fresh endgame experience that will be included in the Season 5 PTR.

During the PTR Campfire Chat for Season 5 of D4, Daniel Tanguay, the Lead Season Designer, gave a sneak peek of a fresh endgame pursuit known as Infernal Hordes.

Tanguay acknowledged that the criticism regarding the unsatisfactory endgame was the driving force behind the development of Season 4’s Pit feature. In an effort to enhance the game even further, the developers took it a step further by incorporating a highly rewarding and endlessly replayable experience filled with challenges and hordes of monsters.

In order to address the issue of players not being able to return to Hell after defeating the main antagonist, D4 introduced Infernal Hordes as a potential solution.

All the information we have gathered about Diablo 4’s Infernal Hordes, the endgame mode set to release in Season 5, is presented here.

What is Diablo 4’s Infernal Hordes Activity?

Infernal Hordes presents players with a wave-based mode that includes “survival-like choices”between each wave. These choices will ultimately lead to challenging boss battles against the Fell Council.

During the course of the activity, participants can anticipate battling against large numbers of Hell’s Legions in the Realm of Hatred, all while earning Burning Aether to access highly valuable rewards and weapons.

The overview of the Infernal Hordes can be found at the 36:00 mark.

In order to begin the activity on the PTR, users must first complete a quest in Zarbinzet. This quest will reward them with a Compass, which can be used to unlock access to Hell.

Similar to Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Compasses also have a starting difficulty, a limit on revives, and eight levels of difficulty Tiers that offer “increasing challenges and rewards.”

As players make progress, they have the option to enhance their Compasses by using newly introduced consumables called Abyssal Scrolls.

How Waves Work in Infernal Hordes

The Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4 will be divided into waves that last 90 seconds each. As players face off against the forces of Hell, they will gather Burning Aether, which can then be used after completing a run.

In Diablo 4, players will receive Burning Aether for defeating Aether Fiends and Aether Lords, as well as destroying Soulspires and Aetheric Masses within the Infernal Hordes. Regardless of whether they play alone or with friends, each player will be rewarded with their own share of Burning Aether.

When the timer finishes and all enemies have been defeated, three Infernal Offers will be presented to users for them to choose from.

Once a decision is made, the next wave will begin. Defeating all waves in a Tier will unlock the Well of Hatred, where the final battle against the Fell Council will occur.

Infernal Offer

Completing waves will lead to players being tempted by Hell with an Infernal Offer. This offer will consist of three “Boons and Banes”that will alter the next run. As an example mentioned in a Blizzard News post, one of these modifications is an increase in Elite damage.

Importantly, Infernal Offers can accumulate across Hordes runs, allowing multiple offers to be active simultaneously.

Spoils of Hell

Following each victorious attempt, players will use Burning Aether to access the four different Spoils of Hell.

  • Spoils of Equipment
  • Spoils of Materials
  • Spoils of Gold
  • Spoils of Greater Equipment – will always guarantee an item with a Greater Affix

Infernal Compass

The Infernal Compasses are divided into eight Tiers, each with varying levels of difficulty and World Tier. As the Tier increases, the number of monster waves also increases, starting at five waves for Tiers I through III.

The count will steadily increase until players reach a limit of 10 rounds using a Tier VIII Infernal Compass.

It should be noted that using compasses not only raises the initial challenge of Monsters, but also enhances the value of rewards. However, it does decrease the amount of revives available.

In order to reach a maximum Tier VIII level, players must upgrade their Infernal Compass using Abyssal Scrolls, which can be earned through upgrading their Tier. It should be noted that Infernal Compasses will only drop in Tiers I through III.

Infernal Compasses are functional at all levels and World Tiers listed below:

  • Tier I
    • Available at World Tier III
  • Tier II
    • Available at World Tier IV
    • Includes Bonus Affixes which increase crafting materials, and Legendary and Unique Drop rates!
  • Tier III
    • Available at Level 100
    • Includes Bonus Affixes
    • Includes Spoil of Greater Equipment

On June 25, BattleNet users on PC will have access to Diablo 4’s Infernal Hordes in the PTR.
