The recent unveiling of the Spiritborn class in Diablo 4 has caused frustration among players due to its apparent similarities to existing classes in the franchise.
The Spiritborn class reveal for Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansion was highly anticipated by players, as it is the first paid DLC for the title. However, our first proper look at the new class came with a surprise when its entire Skill Tree was leaked to the public, exceeding our expectations.
Regrettably, the unveiling of the new Spiritborn footage and its inner workings has diminished the enthusiasm of certain Diablo 4 fans. The main concern is the perceived resemblance between the new class and previous ones featured in both Diablo 4 and past installments.
On the Diablo 4 Subreddit, Redditor Waaailmer posted a humorous comment comparing the Spiritborn to the Druid, playfully suggesting that the former is the “cooler”version. Although some players have noted similarities between the two, others have voiced their dissatisfaction with potential influences from other sources.
During a discussion on the new class in Diablo 4, one player humorously pointed out, “They did mention that this class is completely new and hasn’t appeared in any previous Diablo games.”However, another player responded, “Although they didn’t explicitly say it, the class mechanic and legendary effects seem very similar to that of the Druid.”They continued, “It’s almost as if they thought it was too difficult to buff the Druid, so they decided to introduce a slimmer version instead.”
Some people also raised concerns about how the gameplay of the Spiritborn seemed to resemble certain classes in Diablo 3. One user commented that it looked and played like a green version of the Monk class, essentially making it a duplicate of the existing Monk. Another user compared it to a hybrid of the Monk and Witch Doctor classes.
Several players expressed disappointment with the Spiritborn class after its release, feeling that Blizzard’s pre-release comments had been deceptive. One player on Reddit remarked, “I got really tired of hearing about how it was completely new and not just a mix of Druid and Monk, when in reality it’s basically just a combination of those two with some Witch Dr elements.”They went on to lament, “There is nothing truly original about this class.”
The Spiritborn’s nimble approach to gameplay and strong bond with animals could be interpreted as a homage to established classes such as the Druid or Monk. However, the recently revealed Skills do suggest a unique playstyle for this class.
