Diablo 4 players were able to obtain their Tempering Manuals from Season 4 due to a bug. Although Blizzard chose not to take action, they cautioned players that this may not happen again in the future.
The introduction of Tempering occurred during the major itemization update in Patch 1.4.0 at the beginning of Diablo 4 Season 4. This system enables players to acquire recipes using Tempering Manuals until the conclusion of the season in the Seasonal Realm.
Despite being told that their Season 4 Tempering Manuals would be erased, players were shocked to find that they were still available as Season 5 began on August 6.
This unforeseen carryover resulted in players retaining their acquired recipes, granting them a significant edge at the beginning of the new season.
A player on Reddit pointed out, “It appears that tempering manuals from Season 4 have been transferred to Season 5. I already possess legendary manuals for all equipment on my level 19 character. Is this intentional?”
The sentiment was echoed by the community, with numerous individuals expressing surprise and inquisitiveness regarding the potential intentionality of this alteration.
Adam Fletcher, the Global Community Development Director for Diablo 4, discussed the issue with the Tempering Manual on X. He clarified that the ability to transfer tempering recipes was not part of the initial design.
“We have been made aware of reports stating that new seasonal characters are retaining their tempering recipes from their previous season. While this was not the original design or intention, we will make an exception for Season 5. However, we do not anticipate this to continue for future seasons.”
A player made a humorous remark, stating that whenever Blizzard makes a mistake, it usually doesn’t benefit the player. They joked that they would take advantage of the situation and make the most of it.
Another person expressed their sadness, saying, “rest in peace to all those who missed out on S4,”recognizing the regretful feeling for those who didn’t take advantage of the unexpected opportunity.
Players believe that Season 5, which marks the “completion”of Diablo 4, introduces a plethora of new content – both intentionally and unintentionally. Additionally, it pays homage to long-time fans by featuring five legendary bosses from Diablo 2.
