Diablo 4 Season 5: Release Date and What We Know So Far

During Blizzard’s Campfire Chat, it was revealed that Diablo 4 Season 5, titled “The Eyes of the Enemy,”will continue the story of Sanctuary after the main campaign. This season promises to bring back familiar enemies with a unique twist, along with additional features.

In preparation for the release of Diablo 4’s fifth season, players can now test out unique items, legendary aspects, and other quality of life fixes in the PTR. These new features will be available for players to try before the official launch of the new chapter.

When is the release date for Season 5?

According to the main menu, the release date for Diablo 4 Season 5 is set for August 5, 2024. The developers have announced that this installment will have a shorter storyline compared to previous seasons, as it will pave the way for the upcoming Vessel of Hatred DLC.

From June 25, 2024, to July 2, 2024, players with a Battle.net account will have the opportunity to test all the new features of the upcoming season in the Public Test Realm. This mode is only available for PC players.

Storyline

The latest update includes a new questline titled “The Eyes of the Enemy,”which takes place immediately following the conclusion of the main campaign. Following Lilith’s defeat, she cautions players about the looming return of the Prime Evils – Mephisto, Lord of Hatred; Diablo, Lord of Terror; and Baal, Lord of Destruction – to Sanctuary.

Despite being trapped in the Soulstone stolen by Nyrelle, Mephisto remains a threat to Sanctuary and its inhabitants, as shown in the Vessel of Hatred teaser. In order to protect their world, players must confront not only old foes who have become enemies, but also unexpected allies who emerge from the shadows. This has been confirmed by Blizzard.

It is anticipated that Season 5 will bridge the narrative of the main campaign to the DLC, making it accessible on both Seasonal and Eternal Realms. This availability will continue even after the conclusion of Season 5.

In order to access it, players must travel to Hawezar in World Tier III and begin the questline by looking into a peculiar disturbance among the residents of the city.

      • Aspect Of Tenuous Agility: Gain 5-15% increased Movement Speed. This bonus is doubled if you haven’t used a Defensive Skill in 8 seconds.
      • Aspect Of the Firebird: Gain the Flame Shield Enchantment for free. When Flame Shield activates, Meteorites fall around you dealing (50%-70%) Fire damage.
      • Lightning Rod Aspect: Chain Lightning has a 5-20% chance to chain an additional time when hitting Crowd Controlled enemies and Bosses, and will seek them as targets.
      • Aspect Of Elemental Acuity: Casting a Pyromancy, Shock, or Frost Skill increases your Mana Regeneration by 10-20% for 5 seconds, once per Element. At maximum stacks, the total bonus is increased to 60-120% for 10 seconds, but all stacks expire after the duration.

Endgame Boss & Quality of Life Updates

Endgame Bosses

  • There is no longer a need to reset the dungeon in order to battle the same boss again. Once defeated, the summoning Altar will reappear, giving you the option to use additional resources to replay the boss.
  • Varshan can now be summoned using only Malignant Hearts, as Trembling Hands, Blackened Femurs, and Gurgling Heads have been eliminated from the game.
  • Instead of dropping Rare items, Endgame Bosses will now drop additional gold.

Beast in Ice

  • The Beast in Ice boss fight now functions as a standard dungeon; you no longer have to craft a sigil to enter the fight.
    • Any leftover Beast in Ice sigils held by previous Seasonal Realm or Eternal characters can be used to summon Beast in Ice instead of using Summoning Materials.
  • The boss fight is now situated closer to the entrance, eliminating the need to progress through the Dungeon beforehand.
  • The requirement to use Sigil Dust as a material for summoning has been eliminated.

Helltide and Whispers

  • We have greatly decreased the amount of time it takes to finish Whisper bounties. There will now always be an ample amount of Whispers available to earn 10 Grim Favors during a Helltide event, resulting in a much shorter completion time. Furthermore, the icons have been modified to match the standard of other Whispers.
  • The scaling of your Threat has been adjusted to consistently increase based on the health of Monsters that you defeat.
  • We’re adjusting Baneful Heart drop rates as they were dropping too frequently to feel valuable.
    • Chance to get one from a Tortured Gift starts at 13%, and increases each time you fail to get one. Once you are rewarded a Baneful Heart, the chance resets to 10%.
    • Hellborne and the Helltide Assassin starts at 1% chance to drop a Heart, and also increases each time you fail to get one. It now resets to 2%.
  • The Cull Demons Whisper Bounty has been updated to include Fallen enemies, replacing the previous Cull Fallen Whisper Bounty which has been replaced with a new Cull Cultists version.

Loot Rewards

  • Players can now earn Resplendent Spark awards for defeating Tormented bosses separately on both Hardcore and non-Hardcore modes.
  • Starting now, players will need to manually pick up Resplendent Sparks and Scattered Prisms. In case they are forgotten when they drop, these items can now be retrieved from the lost items Stash.
  • Players can now obtain Unique and Mythic Unique Items through Whisper Caches, the Purveyor of Curiosities, and Tortured Gifts located in Helltide.
  • The likelihood of acquiring Mythic Uniques from non-boss drop locations has been heightened.

Treasure Goblins

  • The loot quality from Treasure Goblins has been enhanced, allowing them to drop 1-3 Legendary Items and 2-6 Rare Items. The amount of Legendary Drops will affect the number of Rare Drops in an inverse relationship. For example, if 2 Legendary Items are dropped, then an additional 4 Rare Items will also be dropped.
  • As a result, 1-2 Elixirs will now always be accompanied by Common Ore, Herbs, Leather, and Gem Fragments.
  • Increased the amount of Gold that drops.
    • Examples:
      • Level 1 in World Tier I: 40k Gold
      • Level 100 in World Tier IV: 150k Gold
  • Forgotten Souls are also dropped by Treasure Goblins in World Tiers III and IV.
  • In addition, in World Tiers I and II, there is now a 10/20/30% chance for them to drop 1-2 Scattered Prisms, while in World Tier III and IV, the chance remains the same.

Weapons

  • We’re now allowing more classes to use different weapon types. This includes updating innate affixes to be more useful across classes and adjusting their conditional requirements.
    • For instance, Sorcerers will now be able to use One-handed Swords and Maces.

  • Revised functionality: When attacking enemies, your next Bash will Clobber after 4 hits, causing them to be Stunned for 1.5 seconds. Clobber will occur twice as frequently if you are wielding a Two-Handed weapon.
  • Enhanced Bash
    • Adjusted functionality: Clobbering an enemy grants you 20% Maximum Life as Fortify.
  • Battle Bash
    • Adjusted functionality: Clobbering an enemy generates an additional 10 Fury.

Flay is the act of removing skin from an animal or object.

  • Enhanced Flay
    • Vulnerable duration increased from 3 to 5 seconds.
  • Combat Flay
    • Damage Reduction increased from 3% to 4%.

  • Whenever Flurry damages an enemy, there is a 10% chance of applying Vulnerable for 3 seconds and increasing its damage by 1% for 5 seconds against Vulnerable enemies. This effect can stack up to a maximum of 50% increased damage.

Advanced Flurry is a term used to describe something that is highly developed or sophisticated.

  • Previously, if you successfully dodged past an enemy, your next Flurry would inflict 30% more damage and stun any enemies it hits for a duration of 2.5 seconds.
  • Currently, every time Flurry is cast, its damage is boosted by 15% and its Energy cost is decreased by 10%. This can be repeated up to 3 times.

Enhanced Flurry

  • Flurry now has a 20% increased damage bonus against Vulnerable targets. Additionally, any enemy hit by Flurry while Vulnerable will also become Vulnerable for a duration of 3 seconds.
  • When using Casting Flurry, you will be dashed to the target and receive a 10% heal of your Maximum Life.

Caltrops are small, sharp objects used to impede or injure the feet of enemies.

    • Now – Hitting an Elite or Boss with Smoke Grenade reduces its Cooldown by 5 seconds.
  • Subverting Smoke Grenade
    • Previous – If an enemy is Vulnerable, Slowed, or Chilled then Smoke Grenade will Daze them for 20% longer.
    • Now – Smoke Grenade now deals Poison damage and applies another 45% Poisoning damage over 5 seconds.

Each stack of Momentum provides you with a 3% increase in Damage Reduction, Maximum Energy, Energy Regeneration, and Movement Speed, for a total of up to 30%.

Legendary Characteristics

The aspect is enshrouded.

  • Under the previous system, players were able to receive a free Dark Shroud shadow every 3 seconds while standing still. These shadows would then provide a boost of 2.5-4.0% in Damage Reduction.

  • The ranks of Concussive have been modified to now be known as Ranks of Malice.
