Diablo 4 Tempering System Needs Change to Save Bricked Items

It’s imperative that Diablo 4’s tempering and masterworking elements undergo some modifications, particularly due to players feeling that the potential “bricking”of Unique Items is too great a risk to experiment with these mechanics.

The masterworking and tempering features, introduced in Diablo 4 Season 4, revitalized its itemization system by providing players with the ability to customize their builds. However, many players are hesitant to use tempering manuals due to the fear of damaging their favorite items and rendering them unusable.

As tempering manuals only allow for five re-rolls, it is considered “bricked”when an item does not receive the desired buff. While the uncertainty of the results is meant to add to the excitement of tempering, fans are devastated that this random system can destroy items they put in hours of effort to obtain.

“The difficulty is too high for my liking. I’m not very motivated to reach the endgame. However, I did enjoy leveling a new class. This was a positive aspect. I never expected to level and play all the classes and still have fun,”shared user your_add_here15243 in the Diablo 4 Subreddit.

Players consider that the tempering system is “too punishing” to even try it.

Blizzard implemented the tempering system in Diablo 4 Season 4’s endgame as a reward for players who completed the seasonal questline and sought to enhance their preferred builds.

Unfortunately, individuals who have invested a significant amount of time into developing their characters are not enthusiastic about risking their hard work and valuable possessions.

Some Diablo 4 fans have proposed a solution to this issue by recommending that tempering manuals have fewer buffs, which would increase the likelihood of obtaining desired stats even after re-rolling. Alternatively, some believe that Blizzard should introduce a system allowing players to reset tempering stats or transfer affixes between items.

The debut of the masterworking and tempering system in Season of Loot Reborn brings the anticipation of potential adjustments and tweaks to these mechanics in the future. There is hope that players will find solutions to their concerns in the upcoming season, as patch 1.4.3 did not address any measures to prevent the unintentional destruction of valuable items.
