Diablo 4: What Progress Transfers to Season 4? Renown, Map & More

Diablo 4 Season 4 will require players to begin with a new character, but their previous accomplishments will not be erased. Here’s what will carry over into Season 4 from previous playthroughs.

Blizzard has implemented a feature in the game that caters to players who do not enjoy constantly repeating tasks and challenges. This not only respects their time, but also allows them to progress more efficiently. In Diablo 4 Season 4, players who have completed certain tasks will benefit from a reduced grind and have more opportunities to craft their desired build.

In the following section, we will discuss what aspects transfer over to Season 4 of Diablo 4 and what does not, as well as how it functions. Additionally, we will provide some helpful advice for navigating future seasons of Blizzard’s latest loot-filled hack-and-slash game. The best part? It’s all much easier than you may think.

Diablo 4 Season 4 will be different from previous seasons.

How do seasons begin?

When creating a seasonal character in Diablo 4, you will need to begin anew and will not have the option to use a character from a previous season or any non-seasonal characters.

If you have previously finished the campaign with a previous character, whether they were seasonal or eternal, you will have the choice to bypass the campaign. This will automatically grant access to all the endgame content, including capstone dungeons, the Tree of Whispers, your mount, and Helltide events. Essentially, anything that becomes available after defeating Lilith and watching the credits.

Nonetheless, you will still have access to all of the side quests in the game, even if you have already completed them in a previous playthrough. Additionally, all other side events, such as unlocking strongholds and Aspects, that are not connected to the main story will also remain available.

As a brand new character, you will still need to reach level 50 without relying on the campaign’s assistance. However, there is an abundance of content available, including the Seasonal Journey, to keep you busy.

You can only play the new seasonal content after you have completed the campaign, when a new story begins, or if you choose to skip it, but not before.

Will a new threat emerge in Season 4?

What Carries Over from Previous Characters?

Your progress in Diablo 4 will not reset completely at the start of a new season. Instead, all of the Renown you have accumulated will be tied to your Blizzard profile, rather than your specific Diablo 4 character. This means that your progress will carry over into the new season.

Imagine you have completed all the Renown Challenges in a previous season or with a character from the game’s launch, before the addition of Seasons. As a result, when starting a new seasonal character, you will see that your achievements and unlocked rewards carry over. This includes receiving all the rewards once again, such as the 10 levels up, gold, Obols, and more. It’s a great way to kick off a new character.

Just to clarify, while there are Renown-based rewards that are applicable to all characters, others are only meant for specific characters. However, this will become evident once you start playing.

If you have unlocked only a portion of the Renown rewards, they will still be available for your new seasonal character. Your progress on each tier will also transfer over, giving you a snapshot of your current status. While it is possible to start collecting Renown with one character and complete it with another, we recommend having a clear strategy in mind before doing so. We will provide a suggested strategy below for an easier and more efficient approach.

Your progress on the map will transfer to a new seasonal character, including any unshrouded areas, unlocked waypoints, and activated Altars of Lilith. This will also add to your total Renown, but the map with the most progress from your main playthrough or adventure will be duplicated onto your new seasonal character.

Remember, each Altar of Lilith grants a permanent boost to the stats of all your characters and you only have to activate them once. If you have all Altars activated, every new seasonal (or eternal) character you create will start the game with a substantial increase in stats – in addition to the 10 extra levels gained through Renown.

Starting off your new adventure this way is actually quite beneficial. While activating each Altar of Lilith can be a tedious task and may take a couple of hours, the end result is worth it. This will greatly facilitate leveling up and allow you to take on more challenging difficulties sooner, which is crucial for reaching the ultimate endgame content.

Initially, certain waypoints will remain locked until your first one is activated. As you progress, most of the remaining waypoints will unlock, with the exception of those located within Strongholds that have yet to be cleared. Therefore, you only need to properly unlock the waypoints that are connected to side missions.

Even if you successfully complete the campaign, but have not explored all areas or reached every waypoint, your map will still reset during your next playthrough. However, all dungeons, quests, and NPCs will also reset. Think of it as a fresh new adventure with the added benefit of being able to discover any missed waypoints.

Diablo 4 Season 4 represents a fresh start for the game.

When is the best time to begin a new season of Diablo 4?

The response to this inquiry ultimately relies on your personal circumstances. If you are new to playing Diablo 4, we suggest jumping into the current season and utilizing the benefits of seasonal play. This will allow you to level up faster, interact with more players, unlock new abilities, and experience the new quests.

As you experience the campaign for the first time, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy many of these exciting perks. However, some will only become available once the campaign is finished. If this is your first time playing the campaign, you’re in for a delightful surprise.

If you participated in a previous season or began your main playthrough at the game’s initial release before seasons were introduced, then your decision should primarily be based on the progress you’ve made with that character. If you’ve only just begun, it may be more beneficial to start over.

If you’re already halfway through the campaign, we suggest completing it in order to have the ability to skip it in the upcoming season. This will be a time-efficient choice as it will unlock all endgame content and allow you to keep your Renown and map progression.

By starting a new game, you will have everything necessary to immediately join in on the seasonal excitement. Keep in mind that if you’re eager to participate in Season 4 but have a well-developed character, you can unlock all the Normal and Veteran Renown tiers, access the map, and finish the campaign. Then, with your second character, you can quickly reach Nightmare difficulty and unlock any remaining content, thus saving yourself some time and swiftly entering the new season.

With all the unlocks and seasonal rewards, reaching level 50 will be a breeze. You can continue your progress from your previous character and by the next season, you will most likely have everything unlocked. Each new season brings exciting new content for you to enjoy, and you can choose your preferred characters to experience the DLC with.
