Diablo 4’s Latest Item Changes Still Require a Loot Filter

The overwhelming abundance of loot found in Diablo 4 Season 5’s Infernal Hordes has once again sparked demands from players for a loot filter within the game.

Despite encountering a few frustrating bugs, Diablo 4 Season 5 has been a success among players. The recently added Infernal Hordes have quickly become the top choice for endgame grinding, and it’s easy to understand why.

By farming a sufficient amount of Burning Aether during your run, you can obtain an exorbitant amount of Gold, which has greatly addressed one of the major complaints from players about Season 4. Additionally, the numerous Spoils of Hell available for purchase with Burning Aether allow for the acquisition of an equally insane amount of gear.

Even in a loot-driven game such as Diablo 4, one would assume this wouldn’t be a problem. However, the addition of Greater Affixes in Season 4 renders a significant portion of gear irrelevant for high-level players. With the ability to obtain over 100 drops from a single chest in an Infernal Horde, the necessity for a loot filter becomes extremely evident.

At this point, it’s unacceptable that there is no loot filter in this game. byu/meepinz indiablo4

A demonstration by Reddit user meepinz showcased the excessive amount of loot that can be obtained by investing a significant amount of Burning Aether into gear chests within a T8 Infernal Horde. While Diablo 4 does feature visual indications and tooltips for Greater Affix drops, the problem arises when a large quantity of gear is dropped and the game is unable to keep pace.

“Meepins explained that leaving all of the items in the area where the box is would result in only a quarter of the tooltips being visible, as they would stop loading or displaying. This can be a major inconvenience when searching for Greater Affix items, as the clutter prevents the tooltips from appearing and makes it difficult to distinguish them from salvaging materials.”

Item drops of this size can be particularly frustrating for console players who lack the precision of a PC’s point-and-click mechanics, leaving them at the mercy of Diablo 4’s rarity prioritization. One player complained that if a summoning mat drops in the middle of a loot frenzy, they must sift through every Legendary and yellow item until they are lucky

Ever since the launch of Diablo 4, players have been requesting a loot filter. However, the development team has clarified that implementing one is more challenging than it seems. In an interview with PC Gamer, Game Director Joe Shely explained the complexity behind making even small changes to the game.

“According to him, each seemingly straightforward decision can have a significant and complex impact on the entire game. While some changes may be easy to make and have immediate effects, others may require extensive effort as they can result in up to 120 additional changes.”

The completion of the itemization overhaul by Blizzard brings us one step closer to obtaining the highly anticipated Diablo 4 loot filter.
