Mythic Uniques were originally designed to have a high level of rarity due to their powerful affixes and abilities, but Blizzard has since made them more accessible.
The latest patch notes and a recent developer update live stream informed Diablo 4 players about the numerous new features coming in Season 5, including the addition of challenging World Bosses and fresh story content.
The drop rate of Mythic Uniques, previously known as Uber Uniques, has significantly increased. This can be attributed to Tormented Bosses, which have become the primary means of targeted farming for Uniques.
The most significant changes have been made to Tormented Bosses and Mythic Uniques.
- Tormented Bosses will now yield a five-fold increase in Boss Materials when defeated.
- Each Tormented Boss has 5 opportunities to drop a mythic item with a probability of 1.5% each. This gives a combined chance of 7.5% to obtain a Mythic Unique. As a result, these bosses now have the potential to drop multiple Mythic Uniques instead of just one.
- The previously required 2 Stygian Stones to summon a Tormented boss has now been reduced to only 1.
- It is now possible to obtain Unique and Mythic Unique items from Whisper Caches, Purveyors of Curiosity, and Tortured Gifts in Helltide.
- The likelihood of obtaining Mythic Unique items through non-boss methods has been raised.
Players will now have access to Mythic Uniques from a wider variety of sources, and the probability of finding them outside of boss battles has been heightened.
The alterations made to Tormented Bosses will encourage players to prioritize farming from their Tormented versions over summoning normal bosses.
This will provide casual players with the opportunity to obtain Mythic Uniques, as well as giving veteran players the chance to battle difficult bosses in order to acquire these rare items.
A discussion on the Diablo 4 subreddit highlighted the main alterations made to Mythic Uniques during the Season of the Infernal Hordes and prompted a debate on the merits of these changes.
Several responses to the Reddit post expressed doubt about the accuracy of these figures, with one player stating, “The developers have already mentioned implementing significant balancing and scaling adjustments, so I am hopeful that they will properly address these issues.”
The fan elaborated on their desire for a middle ground and expressed concern about the potential for Diablo 3 numbers. They were not the only one with this viewpoint, as some speculated that Season 5 would intentionally be unbalanced before the release of the DLC.
