Did HYBE Overlook BTS’s V Due to Min Hee-jin’s Influence?

Did HYBE Overlook BTS’s V Due to Min Hee-jin’s Influence?

Late on October 10, a thread titled “BTS’s V’s solo album consistently overlooked by Big Hit (HYBE)” caught the attention of users on the Korean forum theqoo.

This discussion highlighted that although BTS’s V’s solo project, “Layover,” achieved over 250,000 sales in Japan since its release last year, it only received a RIAJ Gold Certification in 2024.

To secure this certification, the record label must submit an application; however, the other BTS members who also surpassed the 250,000 sales mark in Japan received their certifications immediately, leaving V’s recognition delayed.

Moreover, a minor controversy has emerged among fans of BTS, noting that while the official BTS US shop updated links for the solo album cover photos and sales pages of the members, V’s details were notably absent.

Furthermore, a banner on the BTS US shop website lists 10 tracks from the members and BTS in chronological order of their releases. Strangely, despite “Layover” being one of the 10 most recently published songs, it was omitted from this banner, leading to speculation that HYBE is intentionally sidelining V and his album.

It’s also been pointed out that V’s “Layover” was produced by Min Hee-jin, who is currently in a contentious dispute with HYBE after being removed from her role as CEO of ADOR agency, which represents the group New Jeans.

This situation suggests that amidst their conflict with Min Hee-jin, HYBE may be attempting to erase her influence, which in turn has resulted in V’s album receiving less recognition.

Below are some reactions from netizens:

  • I’m really frustrated about this. I can only imagine how upset V must feel. HYBE is truly falling apart.
  • It does seem like V has been more overlooked than the other members… Is it because of HYBE’s issues with Min Hee-jin?
  • Honestly, why is there this discrimination against V? He’s part of their roster.
  • Bang Si-hyuk must really hold a strong contempt for Min Hee-jin.
  • HYBE is being excessive. I hope V finds success after departing from this company.
  • Did the agency really treat V this way? I’m shocked!
