On October 22nd, multiple online community forums were inundated with critical discussions featuring headlines like “Agency moves without informing their artist IU,” “EDAM Entertainment didn’t notify IU about the relocation,” and “Another controversy involving IU’s agency.”
This situation developed as follows: On October 20th, IU visited her official fan cafe and interacted with her fans through comments. During this exchange, fans raised concerns regarding fan letters being returned when sent to the new address of EDAM Entertainment, inquiring, “We heard rumors that EDAM moved offices. Is it true? Has the address for sending letters changed?”
IU replied, “Huh? We haven’t moved! Did they do it without telling me? As far as I know, we haven’t relocated!”
However, on October 21st, EDAM Entertainment posted a statement on the fan cafe, confirming the move: “Due to the company’s relocation, the address has changed, and we are providing updated instructions for support applications. Please note that mail cannot be received at the previous address to avoid any confusion.”
This sequence of events suggests that the agency relocated without notifying IU, generating considerable frustration among fans. It’s noteworthy that IU holds a significant 22.5% stake in the company as its third-largest shareholder, and while EDAM also manages artist WOODZ (Jo Seung-yeon), the bulk of their revenue comes from IU.
As a result, fans are voicing their frustrations, stating, “How can they handle operations so poorly with only two artists, IU and WOODZ?”
Previously, in April, EDAM Entertainment faced backlash for requesting excessive verification documents from a fan accused of unauthorized ticket transactions for IU’s concert, an issue that concluded with an apology from the agency.
In an ongoing effort to address the relocation issue, attempts to reach representatives of EDAM Entertainment have been fruitless, with all calls going unanswered.
