Despite her supporting role, Kobeni Higashiyama from Chainsaw Man has become a beloved character. From her initial appearance, she has captured the hearts of many with her shy and nervous demeanor, while also showcasing her fierce and capable nature when necessary.
She is both a Devil Hunter and a member of Makima’s special squad within Public Safety.
Despite Kobeni’s decision to quit, it is uncertain if she will make another appearance in the series.

Who is the Character of Kobeni in Chainsaw Man?
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man features Kobeni Higashiyama as a supporting character. She used to be a member of the Public Safety Devil Hunters and joined Makima’s Special Squad as a recruit. Despite her initial bravery, she is actually quite timid and prone to breaking down and crying when faced with pressure.
Despite feeling fearful, she takes extreme measures to ensure her own survival, such as trying to turn on Denji while stuck in the hotel. Despite this, when Kobeni springs into action, she remains composed and capable, effectively handling both the Katana Man and Akane Sawatari and causing them to flee in defeat.
Ultimately, Kobeni discloses that she chose to become a Devil Hunter due to the influence of her parents. They pushed her to find employment in order to help fund her brother’s education. Given the ultimatum of either becoming a sex worker or a Devil Hunter, she decided to join Public Safety as a Devil Hunter.
Why did Kobeni Leave Public Safety?
Simply put, Kobeni resigned from Public Safety after the events that occurred in Hell. This took place during the International Assassins Arc, which spans chapters 53-70 in the manga. In this arc, formidable assassins from around the world come to Japan to track down and obtain Denji’s Chainsaw Man heart.
During the arc, Kobeni had the Violence Fiend by her side as she raced alongside Kishibe to save Denji from the attacking puppets controlled by Santa Claus. As the battle continued, Santa Claus summoned the Hell Devil and banished everyone to Hell. In the midst of chaos, the Darkness Devil emerged and wreaked havoc on the group of hunters.
Despite having her arms forcibly removed like the rest of the victims, Kobeni is immediately thrown into a state of panic. With the Darkness Devil causing chaos, she follows his command and removes the Violence Fiend’s mask before seeking refuge. Aki later updates Denji that Kobeni is safe, but has decided to resign from Public Safety after witnessing the brutal massacre.
Will Kobeni return to the series?
After the Gun Devil Arc, which takes place between the International Assassins Arc and the Control Devil Arc, Kobeni Higashiyama will make a comeback to the series. Despite leaving Public Safety, she continues to face Devils in her new job at Family Burger. Her encounters with these creatures are far from over.
While being mistreated by a co-worker, Kobeni unintentionally summons Chainsaw Man by crying out for his assistance. After a series of unfortunate events resulting in four deaths, Chainsaw Man takes Kobeni to get ice cream and play Dance Dance Mushroom. However, their fun is interrupted by Makima, who tries to defeat the devil with Kobeni’s help.
After surviving Makima’s attack, she finds herself in an underground safehouse with Denji and Kishibe. Kishibe, who had also witnessed the attack, cautions her that she will no longer be able to reach out to her parents. Despite this, she expresses a sense of contentment. Denji and Kobeni then bond over the shared experience of having no control over their lives and being forced to engage in perilous work.
