Did Yanami and Nukumizu Begin a Relationship? Explanation of the Ending of Too Many Losing Heroines

The anime series Too Many Losing Heroines concluded on September 28, 2024, with its 12th episode. This episode centered around a date between Anna Yanami and Kazuhiko Nukumizu, teasing a potential kiss between the two characters.

This development raised questions regarding the relationship status between Nukumizu and Anna. While many fans speculated that the two had started dating, the essence of the anime, being a romantic comedy, remained faithful to its genre.

Ultimately, Nukumizu and Anna did not officially begin dating; instead, they embarked on a fake date arranged by Anna to showcase to her friends that she had a boyfriend. This situation began when Yanami acknowledged Nukumizu’s charm. Nukumizu then implemented a plan he dubbed the ‘Fake Date Project’, during which they went on a staged outing while Anna took pictures of Nukumizu without revealing her identity to her friends.

Episode 12 of Too Many Losing Heroines was entitled Am I Actually Just Some Unseasoned Rando Who Drops In for the Last Episode with the Losing Heroine?. It served as a filler episode, commencing with Yanami and Nukumizu sharing lunch, during which Yanami casually remarked about her cuteness.

Receiving invitations from her friends spurred a discussion about dating. Consequently, Nukumizu organized a group meeting with fellow characters Yakishio Lemon and Chika Komari, proposing a plan titled ‘Yanami’s Fake-a-boyfriend Project.’ Although Yanami intended to keep this under wraps, she placed her trust in Nukumizu, who had suggested the idea.

With overthinking his cue, Nukumizu managed to secure tickets for a complimentary visit to an amusement park, courtesy of Kunoki-sensei. The following day, he took all three girls to the amusement park to execute Yanami’s plan of pretending to be her boyfriend. As expected, the scheme unraveled when Yanami focused more on indulging in snacks than documenting her time with her fake boyfriend.

During their outing, they unexpectedly encountered Karen and Sousuke, who were also at the amusement park, participating in their own amusement. This sight dampened Yanami’s mood significantly. To lift her spirits, Nukumizu swiftly altered their surroundings and led Yanami to the play area, attempting to distract her from the earlier encounter.

Their day culminated with a ride on the Ferris Wheel, as Yakishio and Chika embarked on separate escapades. On the Ferris Wheel, the atmosphere turned emotionally charged when Nukumizu suggested that Yanami could easily find a boyfriend without needing such elaborate ruses.

Yanami responded with a sly grin, moving closer to Nukumizu. The episode concluded with a scene implying they shared a kiss. However, their subsequent reactions appeared tepid, suggesting Yanami opted for a different course of action. Following their encounter with Karen and her boyfriend, she chose not to share pictures of her own supposed boyfriend, as it would be evident that Nukumizu filled that role.

While earlier episodes hinted that Nukumizu might possess romantic feelings for Yanami, those sentiments shifted upon recognizing her ‘bold’ character. Nevertheless, with the episode being a filler, the future remains uncertain, and further developments could transpire in a potential sequel if it materializes.
