The fourth installment of the rebooted film series will continue the Planet of the Apes franchise. Taking place years after Caesar’s rule, a new group of primates (both good and bad) embark on a journey that will impact the destiny of humans and apes.
Undoubtedly, the revived Planet of the Apes franchise strays significantly from its cheesy forerunners, striving for a more realistic and emotionally powerful approach to storytelling while incorporating state-of-the-art visual effects. Nevertheless, the profound influence that Franklin J. Schaffner’s 1968 classic had on the film industry remains unmatched.
Wes explains, “It was the enjoyment of it all. Just like in the Ceasar trilogy, the story begins in the human world and then the apes enter and it transforms into an ape-centric tale. Similarly, in this scenario, the story commences in the ape world and then a human character enters, expanding the scope of the narrative.”
The filmmaker explained that the movies explore the dynamic between humans and apes, highlighting their coexistence and the resulting conflict and drama. Therefore, the film aims to tell a compelling human and ape story by the end.
Ultimately, according to Wes, the central theme of these movies remains unchanged. The question of whether apes and humans can successfully coexist continues to be explored in all of these films.
The highly anticipated film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will be released in UK cinemas on May 9 and US cinemas on May 10. For more options, check out our list of movies to watch this month, as well as upcoming streaming releases for May.
