Disable Chromatic Aberration in Life Is Strange: Double Exposure – A Step-by-Step Guide

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure showcases the power of Unreal Engine 5, making it the most visually captivating installment in the series to date. However, this enhanced visual fidelity comes with its challenges, as the game is quite resource-intensive and could benefit significantly from the integration of technologies like DLSS or XeSS. Unfortunately, it features a limited range of graphics settings similar to many other Unreal Engine titles, lacking several sought-after post-processing options. Below, we’ll guide you on how to turn off the chromatic aberration effect in Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.

Turn Off Chromatic Aberration in Life Is Strange Double Exposure

The chromatic aberration effect can detract from the visual quality of the game, being heavily used throughout its environments. In-game options to deactivate this effect are limited to lowering post-processing quality to the minimum, which is not an ideal solution. Thankfully, you can modify the effect by editing the Engine.ini configuration file.

Below, you’ll find a visual comparison of the main menu background showing chromatic aberration both enabled and disabled.

  • Ensure Life Is Strange: Double Exposure is not running
  • Open Windows Run by pressing the Windows key and the R key simultaneously
  • Input the following directory and hit OK

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Chronos\Saved\Config\Windows

  • Locate and open the Engine.ini file using a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++
  • Add the following line at the end of the file

[SystemSettings]r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0

  • Save your changes and close the text editor.

Once the file is saved, this adjustment will completely eliminate the chromatic aberration from your gameplay, resulting in much sharper and clearer visuals.

Another example highlights how the chromatic aberration effect can obscure details in visuals. Pay attention to the fox mural and the characters on the right side.
