Despite having numerous settings to adjust, the default anti-aliasing option in XDefiant for PC is TAA, which may not be preferred by all users due to potential blurring. However, there is a way to disable TAA in the game for those who wish to do so. Additionally, XDefiant runs smoothly on a variety of PC configurations.
Disable TAA in XDefiant
In order to turn off the TAA feature in XDefiant, simply change the value of taa to 0 in the game’s configuration file. This will disable the setting.
- First, open Windows Run by hitting the Windows and R keys together
- Enter the following address, and press OK
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\XDefiant\
- Here, open the bc_gfx_settings_unauthenticated.cfg file using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++
- Scroll to the bottom, and change the value of taa to 0 from 4.
- 0 completely disables TAA, while 1-4 are the levels of TAA quality, 4 being the highest and default
- Save the file (Ctrl + S) and exit out
- Now, right-click on the file, and select Properties
- Make sure the Read-only option is checked, otherwise the game will overwrite the file once you launch it
Upon launching XDefiant again, TAA will be fully deactivated within the game.
Comparison Screenshots
The screenshots below demonstrate the subtle variation between having TAA enabled and disabled, which is more noticeable during action. We have also uploaded this comparison on Imgsli for a closer examination of the difference in distant details.
Restore TAA
To restore the TAA implementation, simply follow the steps mentioned above and assign a value between 1 and 4 to the “taa”variable. Remember to uncheck the Read-Only option before making any changes to the file.
Our hope is that the developers will incorporate additional anti-aliasing choices rather than limiting it to just TAA. While XDefiant lacks upscaling technology such as DLSS, FSR, or XeSS, it also doesn’t require the highest system demands.
