Disbanded 3rd-Gen Girl Group Releases Hit Song’s 2024 Version After Buying Copyright

Following their initial disbandment, the members of this 3rd-gen girl group funded their own reunion and performed a new version of their most popular song in 2024.

After a six-year absence, FIESTAR finally reunited with members Jei, Linzy, Yezi, Hyemi, and Cao Lu, with the exception of former member Cheska.

On August 31st, the group of five, known as the quintet, released the 2024 edition of their song “You’re Pitiful”on multiple music platforms, such as YouTube.

This song is a remake of their signature track, which was initially released in 2015 on their debut mini-album, “BLACK LABEL.”

To accommodate its fans in both Korea and China, the team made preparations for both the Korean and Chinese versions.

The 2024 version of the song, in contrast to its original release nine years prior, incorporated a contemporary and innovative sound by blending elements of UK garage and lazy pop genres, while still maintaining its trademark ambiguous and emotive tone.

In the official music video, the members showcased their enduring dance abilities and stunning visuals through a simple yet impactful dance routine.

Despite debuting in 2012, FIESTAR ultimately disbanded in 2018 due to inactivity. However, during their 12th debut anniversary this year, the group surprised fans by releasing a new song, with Cao Lu being revealed as the driving force behind their reunion.

In May, it was disclosed that she had purchased the copyright for the song with her personal savings. Following a revision of the lyrics, the group independently financed the recording of the song in both Korean and Chinese versions, resulting in their reunion.

To commemorate their 12th debut anniversary, FIESTAR has planned a range of activities, with Cao Lu expressing her hopes of finally winning a music show trophy, something they were never able to achieve during their time as active performers.

After being released, the MV has gained over 118k views on the SUPER SOUND Bugs! YouTube channel. In the comments, the group has received glowing reviews such as:

  • “This is the old K-pop that I missed so much. I sincerely hope this song goes viral and gets more recognition.”
  • “I love this song. FIESTAR! Cao Lu! Fighting! I’m really happy and touched to see them working as a team again.”
  • “The return of FIESTAR and older K-pop groups is what we needed for real.”

Apart from fans of K-pop, IU, who was previously under the same label as FIESTAR under LOEN Entertainment, showed her support for the girl group by sharing a photo of herself streaming their song. She even added the message, “FIESTAR is back!”

Since their debut, the soloist has consistently supported the group. Hyemi remembered:

“IU promoted FIESTAR a lot in the past. We were trainees together. We became close while living together in a 1,965-2 197 m2 apartment.

IU (also) gave me a luxury bag as a gift to celebrate my first paycheck. Even though it wasn’t a lot of money, she gave gifts to everyone around her. She’s really a very loyal friend.”
