The Pale Garden is a chilling reinterpretation of the Dark Forest biome. In this eerie setting, passive mobs do not spawn, enhancing the feeling of solitude that this biome is designed to evoke. Towering Pale Oaks stretch endlessly in every direction, while the ground is covered in Pale Moss blocks and carpets. The delicate, hanging Pale Moss adds to the somber atmosphere, complemented by the unsettling ambient effects of this biome.

II. The Pale Moss

Distinctive moss elements define the Pale Garden biome. Scattered throughout are Pale Moss Blocks and Carpets, which can spread up to two blocks on adjacent solid surfaces. By applying bonemeal, players can accelerate the growth of the carpet to cover surrounding solid blocks. The Pale Hanging Moss gracefully drapes down the Pale Oaks, thriving when bonemeal is used.

III. The Pale Oak

Pale Oak Saplings drop from the leaves of Pale Oaks, introducing a brand-new white wood set into the Minecraft palette. Yes, that’s right – white wood has finally arrived!

Builders will undoubtedly appreciate this addition! This biome is perfect for crafting a haunted house, utilizing the pale white woodset as the primary aesthetic. Below is a list of items you can create using the pale oak wood:

  • Door, Trapdoor, and Stairs.
  • Fence and Fence Gate.
  • Planks and Slabs.
  • Signs & Hanging Signs.
  • Wood, Stripped Log & Stripped Wood.
  • Buttons and Pressure Plates.
  • Boat and Boat with Chest.

IV. The Creaking

Meet the new mob, The Creaking, which emerges at night for a peculiar game reminiscent of red-light green-light. No joke! It remains still when observed by players and stalks them when they look away.

  • Attempting to attack it is ineffective; striking it results in a particle trail that connects it to its respective Creaking Heart block. Destroying the heart is the only way to eliminate the Creaking.
  • This mob ignores light levels and matches the day/night cycle for spawning and despawning. Moreover, the Creaking cannot enter boats or pass through portals.
  • The Creaking Spawn Egg generates a standalone Creaking mob that is unaffected by day/night cycles and can take damage, having only one health point.
  • Connected Creakings and their Creaking Hearts cannot be spawned with eggs or commands.
  • Currently, the Creaking mob deals half a heart of damage to players with iron armor – minor damage, especially for those equipped with full Diamond or Netherite armor. However, whether these stats will change before the official release remains uncertain.

V. The Creaking Heart

True to its name, this block is the literal heart of the Creaking mob. Destroying it means eliminating the Creaking tied to this heart.

  • The Creaking Heart is a unique living block that spawns within Pale Oak trees surrounded by Pale Oak wood logs.
  • As night falls over the Pale Garden, a Creaking Heart situated perfectly between two pale oak logs (one above and one below) generates the Creaking mob.
  • This block possesses unique characteristics: it is active at night while remaining dormant during the day. When a player hits its corresponding Creaking mob, the Creaking Heart emits a particle trail.
  • You can collect this block with a silk touch axe. Placing it anywhere outside the biome will still trigger a Creaking at night, provided it’s positioned between two pale oak woods.

VI. Ambient Block Sounds

The Pale Garden biome features an innovative ambient sound system, where noises are emitted from specific blocks instead of biome settings. Two primary blocks are key to this immersive sound experience: the Pale Hanging Moss and Creaking Heart.

Pale Hanging Moss that clings to Pale Oak Logs and Leaves provides subtle atmospheric sounds, establishing an eerie ambiance.

(And indeed, collecting these blocks and placing them outside the biome will still allow them to emit ambient sounds at night. How delightfully spooky~)

  • Snapshots are available solely for Minecraft: Java Edition. To install Snapshots:
    • Launch the Minecraft Launcher.
    • Enable snapshots in the “Installations” tab.
  • Testing versions could potentially damage your world. Ensure backups of your worlds are made and operate experimental versions in a separate folder to prevent complications.

Until then, gamers, enjoy your mining and crafting adventures!
