Recently, the esteemed newspaper Starnews celebrated its 20th anniversary by conducting a survey with the help of Gallup Korea. A total of 1,052 men and women aged between 19 and 69 were interviewed nationwide from the 19th to the 23rd. The results revealed some of the most popular names in singing and acting based on public votes.
Leading the chart is the talented singer and actress IU, who garnered 31% of the votes. IU made her debut as a solo artist in 2008 and entered the acting scene with the drama “Dream High” in 2010. With 16 successful years in the industry, she has achieved remarkable success in both music and acting, releasing hit albums such as “Love Poem” and “Palette,” and starring in popular dramas like “Moon Lovers,” “Hotel Del Luna,” and “My Ahjussi.” Throughout her illustrious career, IU has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Digital Daesang/Song of the Year at the Golden Disc Awards in 2018 and Best New Actress at the KBS Drama Awards in 2013. She has also been nominated for major accolades such as the Baeksang Arts Awards and Korea Drama Awards. Additionally, IU is considered one of the wealthiest female K-pop artists, with a fortune exceeding 50 billion won (around 37 million USD), as reported by the South China Morning Post in 2021.
In the second position is Lim YoonA, also a singer and actress, who received 23% of the votes. As a member of the iconic girl group Girls’ Generation, YoonA ventured into acting in 2012 and has since appeared in numerous popular dramas, including “Love Rain,” “The K2,” “Big Mouth,” and “King the Land.”
Also featured on the list are younger talents like ASTRO’s Cha Eun-woo, who secured 23% of the votes and ranks third. BLACKPINK’s Jisoo holds the eighth spot with 9% of the votes. Additionally, recognized figures within the industry, such as EXO’s D.O., are also included, ranking fifth with 17% of the votes.
