A recent survey conducted by Star News and research firm Gallup Korea from August 19 to 23 revealed that Girls’ Generation and BLACKPINK were voted as the top K-pop girl groups (debuted in the 21st century) with 42% of the votes. The survey, which targeted 1,052 men and women aged 19 to 69 from all across the nation, gave respondents two multiple-choice options to choose from.

Despite the emergence of many new idol groups, Girls’ Generation, who made their debut in 2007, recently celebrated their 17th anniversary. They have consistently been referred to as one of the top K-pop girl groups and have garnered support from fans of all ages and genders. In fact, they received the most votes from individuals in their 30s (47%) and 60s (46%).

The age breakdown of the survey results showed that 25% came from those aged 19-29, 23% from those in their 30s, 30% from those in their 40s, and 28% from those in their 50s.

Despite being a relatively new group, NewJeans has already gained recognition through numerous awards and solidified their position as a leading fourth-generation girl group. Their recent sold-out concert at Japan’s Tokyo Dome, which accommodates 50,000 seats, and their plans for a world tour in 2025 demonstrate their ability to captivate audiences with their dynamic performances. Following the footsteps of popular girl groups like Girls’ Generation and BLACKPINK, NewJeans is rapidly becoming a cultural sensation in the world of pop music.

Other groups that also received high rankings were Wonder Girls (21%) in 4th place, TWICE (13%) in 5th, 2NE1 (10%) in 6th, IVE (7%) in 7th, and aespa, KARA, and Red Velvet tied for 8th with 5%. Apink, MAMAMOO, and SISTAR all tied for 11th place with 4%, while T-ara and (G)I-DLE shared 14th place with 3%.
