In the world of Marvel Rivals, Bats, the ethereal dog of Doctor Strange, resides exclusively in the foyer of the Sanctum Sanctorum. This distinctive map merges both indoor and outdoor locales, showcasing Doctor Strange’s magical portals that interconnect its diverse regions.
To access the Sanctum Sanctorum map, the easiest method is by participating in the Doom Match mode. Keep in mind that this mode is time-sensitive, meaning you’ll want to prioritize your quest to discover Bats while it’s ongoing, as both the map and mode may be removed in future updates.
Alternatively, players can explore the Sanctum Sanctorum via Custom Game Mode. Simply select “Create”and pick the Sanctum Sanctorum map. This option allows you to navigate without interruptions from other players, providing a peaceful setting to interact with the charming ghost dog, Bats.
Who Is Bats?
Bats, introduced in the Doctor Strange comics back in 2017, serves as Doctor Strange’s faithful pet. What makes this basset hound stand out is a spell cast by Doctor Strange, facilitating effective communication between them—particularly between Bats and Doctor Strange himself.
Sadly, Bats faced a tragic fate after an encounter with Loki. However, his story continues as he returns as a ghostly hound, now wandering the Sanctum Sanctorum while capable of conversing with humans.
NetEase has spotlighted this unique character in Marvel Rivals, where various heroes can engage in brief conversations with Bats during their visit to the Sanctum Sanctorum. While Bats isn’t widely recognized among players yet, the ever-growing popularity of Marvel Rivals promises that he will soon become a beloved figure in gaming lore.
How to Locate and Engage with Bats in Marvel Rivals?
Bats, your ghostly companion in Marvel Rivals, does not remain stationary. Instead, he traverses the interiors of the Sanctum Sanctorum map, primarily within the building rather than in the outdoor areas. Look for him near staircases surrounded by corridors or beneath Doctor Strange’s painting that features him alongside a cozy sofa and lamp table.
Curiously, Bats may approach you after your character dies and respawns, whether you come back as the same character or a different one.
To engage in conversation with Bats, there is no dedicated interaction button. Simply get close, and the dialogue will initiate automatically. For instance, while navigating the Doom Game Mode, we observed that Thor began chatting with Bats mid-battle against the Winter Soldier, as demonstrated in the image above.
In contrast, characters like Squirrel Girl and Spider-Man may take longer to trigger a conversation, although interactions can eventually occur.
There may be additional characters with unique dialog options for interacting with Bats, and we will enhance this guide as new findings arise. Currently, we have confirmed that at least four characters can engage with this ghostly companion.
Unlocking the “A Hounding Conversation”Achievement in Marvel Rivals
To unlock the A Hounding Conversation achievement in Marvel Rivals, initiate a chat with Bats using any of the eligible characters.
This particular achievement debuted in Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. The characters listed above can be used to successfully interact with Bats and secure the A Hounding Conversation achievement.
Importantly, you do not need to finish the match on the Sanctum Sanctorum map to make progress towards this achievement. As long as you’ve had the chance to converse with Bats, you can exit the match, and it will still register. Upon returning to the main lobby, a notification will appear on the right side of your screen. Navigate to the Achievements section to claim your reward points for completing A Hounding Conversation.
