Discovering Team Rocket Counters in Overlooked Pokemon Go Feature (with a Catch)

Even with different team combinations, defeating Team Rocket members in Pokemon Go remains just as difficult. Although the game suggests the appropriate types to use against their Shadow Pokemon, this strategy does not always work against certain Grunts.

When selecting Pokemon for the Team Rocket battle, you can simply click on the question mark next to the search bar to identify the types that the enemy team is vulnerable to.

The Dark-type Grunt is typically vulnerable to Bug, Fighting, and Fairy types. This cunning NPC frequently employs the use of Stunky and Alolan Muk, both of which are Poison/Dark-type species that do not possess weaknesses to any of the aforementioned types.

Despite players typically relying on the suggested counters, unexpected Pokemon such as Stunky and two Alolan Muk can completely disrupt any planned strategies. Additionally, their high defensive stats add to the difficulty of defeating them.

Therefore, after a Reddit user named ‘SundownCaress’ posted the tip about using question marks to identify counters, fellow players advised them to consider the Grunt’s lineup.

A player advised, “Be cautious of the Dark-type grunts. It is likely that at least one, if not all three, of their Pokemon will be Dark/Poison, making your usual Dark counters less useful. It is wise to have a strong Ground-type Pokemon with you to handle them.”

Another person playfully suggested that the game begin suggesting Ground-type Pokemon to defeat the troublesome Dark-type Grunt. Pokemon like Primal Groudon, Mega Garchomp, and Excadrill are highly effective in this situation.

However, when Ground types were mentioned, trainers were reminded of another infamous Grunt who frequently catches them off guard.

“A comment expressed frustration with facing double Skarmory steel types, stating that even using Groudon with precipice blades/fire punch takes longer than desired. However, the commenter noted that Skarmory’s Flying subtype eliminates its weaknesses to Fighting and Ground-type attacks, making it a formidable opponent.”

It is advisable to face Team Rocket Grunts with the recommended counters and subsequently change your team depending on their lineups, as you can battle them multiple times. For example, Fire types are effective against Skarmory.

Be ready to face Arlo, Sierra, Cliff, and their leader, Giovanni, after defeating the Grunts in Pokemon Go.
